Brief Description
Network Rail are looking for a Lead Trainer in Track Engineering to join the team in Basingstoke! This is an exciting opportunity where you'll be training and supporting new starters, apprentices and more experienced employees looking to upskill within a new discipline.

About the role
This is an opportunity for a Track Engineering Specialist to join a close-knit team in Basingstoke where you are supported to succeed. The team is made up of 4 experienced Lead Trainers and Senior trainers who specialise in individual disciplines. In this role, you will be training and supporting the development of new starters to the railway, apprentices, and experienced employees who are looking to upskill within a new discipline. This is a chance for you to develop your own experience and career with opportunities to take part in funded further education courses along with CPD training days. We are looking for someone willing to share their knowledge, help others develop while building their own career at Network Rail.

Transferable environments and experience may include:

  • Track patrolling / patrollers
  • Switches and crossing inspectors
  • Permanent Way engineers

This is a role which would be suited to someone who is passionate about safety and has a safety critical mindset given the nature of the role.

Location: On site at Basingstoke, some travel required depending on training contract and possible other recruitments to other Network Rail route services locations on occasion.
Discipline: Track Safety
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday full time (35hrs per week) 8am 4pm.
Salary: £51,600.00

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop the proficiency of employees by inspirational delivery of technical, safety and vocational training interventions.
  • Provide an exemplary level of learner-focused customer service, enhancing enjoyment and motivation to learn.
  • Actively foster a safety-first, No-Unsafe-Acts culture within employees and actively promote the Network Rail Values at every touch point.
  • Drive Network Rail corporate messages & behavioural communications into the consciousness of employees.
  • Without exception, always act safely; always promote safety awareness and always demonstrate clear compliance and belief in safety procedures.
  • Continuously develop your own technical proficiency (including relevant in-date regulated competencies), knowledge and adult education capability.
  • Confidently and actively demonstrate that capability to earn justified and obvious credibility amongst the delegate population.
  • Continuously develop and improve the training material, assessment material and equipment.
  • Positively contribute to Content Review Groups and Skills Forums.
  • Maintain the currency of all local training documentation and visual aids.
  • Fairly assess the capability of delegates and provide them the facilitated opportunity to learn.
  • Support the assessment and evaluation of training impact at course end and at appropriate post training intervals.
  • Support the Training Delivery Manager with programme design, evaluation, team dynamics and centre performance and reputation.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach to the achievement of the objectives of Competence & Training (and Network Rail).
  • Positively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Training Centres internal quality procedures and work instructions, demonstrating a personal commitment to continuous improvement.
  • As a Network Rail Manager, always actively support, promote and enforce company processes, initiatives, messages, policies, whilst actively demonstrating managerial behaviours and values.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Thorough knowledge of the technical or operational capability relevant to the role.
  • Excellent presentational skills.
  • Ability to affect a culture change and to motivate and inspire.
  • Ability to demonstrate the management capabilities of developing, planning, thinking, and achieving.
  • Trainers may occasionally be expected to cover activities in other training locations.
