Lead Pharmacist – ePMA and Clinical Informatics

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lead Pharmacist - ePMA and Clinical Informatics to play a pivotal role in the implementation, development, and maintenance of our electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) system. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of digital healthcare and make a tangible impact on patient care and pharmacy services.

As an organisation, we are on the brink of a major transformation with the rollout of a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system. This is your chance to be at the forefront of digital change, ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines through innovative technologies.

Main duties of the job
  1. Lead the development, implementation and ongoing management of clinical IT programmes with a focus on medicines optimisation.
  2. Lead on the installation, configuration and testing of regular pharmacy catalogue updates to include new medicines.
  3. Lead the development and implementation of policies and procedures relevant to Clinical Informatics in Medicines Optimisation.
  4. Lead all aspects of quality assuring IT software and systems relating to ePMA, including the provision of relevant, appropriate reports, audits and delivering actions to address any deficiencies or risks.
  5. Lead and advise on the IT and Clinical Informatics components of any future technology developments within pharmacy.
  6. Be a team leader and arrange the training of pharmacy staff and others as needed to ensure staff are competent to carry out their job roles effectively.
  7. Provide expert advice on the development of structured training programmes for users of any clinical informatics system through engagement with the relevant clinical teams.
  8. Deliver a clinical pharmacy service in the trust to maintain clinical skills and ensure that any IT developments support such practice.
  9. Support the IT requirements of the Trust Smart Pumps for medicines administration.
  10. Contribute to the strategic planning of the pharmacy department and the trust's clinical IT strategy with a focus on medicines optimisation.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Masters in Pharmacy Degree
  • 1 year pre-registration training Professional registration with General Pharmaceutical Council
Knowledge and Experience
  • Substantial post registration experience as a pharmacist practitioner to include experience of leading or participating in an e-prescribing or EPR implementation on behalf of pharmacy.
  • Relevant Hospital ePMA (prescribing and Administration Systems) experience.
  • Experience in implementing and managing change.
  • Demonstrable experience of supervising and managing staff/ teams.
  • Previous experience of contribution to the operational and strategic direction of the pharmacy department.
  • Experience of identifying and managing risk in a clinical specialty.
  • Proven ability to deliver education and training.
  • An understanding of how digital tools / EPR functionality can improve clinical practice in the hospital setting.
Skills
  • Computer literate including familiarity with electronic prescribing systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of clinical audit methodology.
