We are seeking a Lead Optical Manufacturing Engineer in our Broomfield, CO Location

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical leadership as part of a multi-functional team working on electro-opto-mechanical systems for delivering light to and collecting light from trapped-ion quantum computing platforms.
  • Supports and drives improvements to the manufacturing, assembly, quality, and cost of complex optical/opto-mechanical assemblies comprising dozens of optics including polarization elements, AOMs and EOMs, and wavelength stabilization of lasers.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to outsource subassemblies to contract manufacturers.
  • Lead the troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause corrective action of optical/opto-mechanical systems.
  • Provide feedback and engineering support to the design of complex electro-opto-mechanical systems including but not limited to DFX, Design for Manufacturability, and Design to Cost.
  • Perform prototype assembly and verification as well as create detailed drawings, instructions, and processes for production.
  • Lead documentation efforts including creating and maintaining test reports, acceptance test procedures, assembly procedures, and design validation plans.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, and Scientists to deliver state-of-the-art optics solutions.
  • Read, study, and explore cutting edge research papers describing optical systems and designs that apply to our products & customer interests.
YOU MUST HAVE:
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in a high precision optical/opto-mechanical manufacturing/production environment.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience with precision optical alignment and proper handling of optical components.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with optical testing methods & metrology tools such as interferometry, laser characterization, M2, MTF testing, and image analysis software.
  • Minimum 5+ years knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts needed to deliver ultra-high precision optical assemblies.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status).
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
WE VALUE:
  • Masters or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Engineering, or closely related field preferred.
  • Solid understanding of optical concepts such as ray aberrations, waves, diffraction, interference, Gaussian propagation, lasers, imaging, etc.
  • Broad understanding of optical principles and practices and intimate knowledge and experience applying this knowledge to the build and test of optical systems.
  • Optics and mechanical CAD experience (e.g., Solidworks, Onshape).
  • Experience with engineering change documentation; Ability create assembly drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, sketches, and other written, visual, and oral instructions.
  • Knowledgeable with quality improvement tools and techniques, e.g. Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, & FMEA.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical test equipment; Strong knowledge of fibers and lasers.
$150,000 - $188,000 a year
Compensation & Benefits:
Incentive Eligible/Range posted is inclusive of bonus target when applicable.
Estimated Salary Wage: $150,000 - $188,000 Annually.
