Lead Nurse/Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Integrated Sexual Health

We are looking for an exceptional nurse to appoint to this key leadership post within our HIV and Integrated Sexual Health service based at St Mary's hospital in central London for a 1-year fixed term maternity cover.

The successful candidate for this Lead Nurse / Advanced Clinical Practitioner role will provide operational leadership and direction for the integrated sexual health nursing team comprising of nurse practitioners, specialty nurses, staff nurses, nursing associates and healthcare assistants.

Our ideal candidate will have extensive relevant experience within the field, advanced clinical skills and knowledge, especially in operational management, contraception, and STI management. The post holder will be expected to work clinically as well as providing operational leadership to the team. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will be a skilled communicator with a passion for education and staff development. You will place a high priority on maintaining a supportive and caring environment for both patients and staff, and on developing the highest standards of evidence-based practice and achieving key quality metrics.

You will be fully supported in your role by the department's consultant nurses and wider leadership teams.

Main Duties of the Job

  • The Lead Nurse/ACP for Integrated Sexual Health oversees the Advanced Nurse Practitioners within the sexual health services and is operationally responsible for delivering clinical training, assessment, and supervision for the wider nursing teams.
  • They work closely with the senior multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to provide nursing leadership in the department for maintaining and improving service provision, nursing clinical expertise, and high-quality nursing care.
  • The nurse will require advanced and specialist skills to independently manage unselected people attending clinics. They will manage patients with sexually transmitted infections (STI) or at high risk of acquiring them and discuss patients' sexual and reproductive health concerns. STI screening and the provision of contraception treatment and advice are key aspects of the role.

Job Responsibilities

Person Specification

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • Has attained/working towards a master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or related area
  • Post-registration courses in HIV, contraception, and/or sexual health.
  • Teaching and assessing qualification and has taught as a guest lecturer in sexual health at a University level.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years post-registration experience
  • Minimum of 3 years in a clinical position within sexual health posts
  • Minimum of 18 months of experience of staff management
  • Previous experience of staff supervision
  • Previous experience of involvement with clinical audit and/or disease surveillance

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Experience in change management
  • Previous experience of working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
  • Proven teaching and assessing skills.
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust-wide initiatives/committees.
  • Experience of managing projects and delivering cost improvement plans.
