Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer with coaching skills.
  • NVQ level 3 in Engineering and further education in Mechanical Engineering.

Job description

Astute’s Power team is partnering with a large sugar company to recruit a Lead Mechanical Engineer for its site in Bury St Edmunds.

The Mechanical Engineer role comes with a starting salary of up to £70,000.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Engineering Support Manager you will:

  1. Ensure the technical integrity of mechanical plant to ensure that product, process and systems meet specified requirements.
  2. Develop technical specifications to support the repair of non-routine mechanical breakdowns on site.
  3. Act as the site subject matter expert for all mechanical maintenance tasks to enhance safety, reliability and production throughput in line with site objectives.
  4. Take responsibility for coordination and management of Statutory and Mandatory compliance topics.
  5. Interpret business-wide standards and policy and ensure that they are understood and applied appropriately at site level and deliver legal compliance.
  6. Define technical specifications and acceptance testing standards for all mechanical maintenance tasks to ensure standardisation on site.
  7. Support the learning and development of the site teams through the provision of coaching and mentoring to ensure that they are fully equipped to deliver their objectives.
  8. Lead site based mechanical reliability centred maintenance initiatives to facilitate maximum equipment and plant uptime, and contribute to a cost per tonne reduction.
  9. Lead site based mechanical defect elimination initiatives to minimise production downtime.
  10. Lead a cross-business expert group to facilitate standardisation of approach and the sharing of good practice.
  11. Demonstrate the highest personal health and safety standards at all times and work effectively with other team members to carry out the tasks safely and effectively.
  12. Lead by example by role-modelling the client’s Values and behaviours.
  13. Deliver and Support Capital projects.
Professional Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  1. A minimum of a NVQ level 3 in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  2. Further education within Mechanical Engineering (HNC / HND / degree / Chartership) highly desirable.
  3. FMCG experience highly desirable.
  4. Any High Voltage certificates are highly desirable.
  5. Engineering Compliance knowledge (PSSR, Lifting Regs, LEV etc) highly desirable.
