Job description

Are you looking for an opportunity to lead a team and influence the delivery of breast imaging services? An exciting secondment opportunity to cover maternity leave has arisen for an experienced and driven radiographer looking to develop into a leadership role to join the team at the Nottingham Breast Institute.

The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary breast team based at the City Hospital Campus of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. You will work in both clinical and admin roles providing operational and strategic leadership for the breast imaging team in the delivery of both the symptomatic and breast screening services, and have the opportunity to advance your leadership skills by leading the daily supervision of the breast imaging mammography team.

You will hold a Masters level mammography qualification (UK recognised) and be HCPC registered. Mammography posts have a gendered protected character, due to the nature of the work. This is an occupational requirement, as a result the post is exempt under section 9 part 1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants should apply.

Main duties of the job

You will have a sound knowledge of the NHS Breast Screening Service and significant experience of working as a mammographer within the NHS breast screening and symptomatic services. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with patients, their families and health professionals. You will provide the daily operational leadership for the mammography team so previous experience in a supervisory capacity, from leading a small team or a project, and a desire to develop your leadership skills further are essential. You will need to be able to think quickly and strategically to delegate tasks appropriately as you problem solve and advise the team on a range of equipment and workflow issues to ensure the daily clinics run smoothly and that the team are well informed and supported. You will have considerable experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. As a mammographer, you will work clinically within both screening and symptomatic clinics.

Job responsibilities

Key responsibilities

Leadership and general service management

  • Provide operational leadership to the breast imaging team
  • To deputise for the Radiography Service Manager
  • Line management
  • Organise daily staffing levels to ensure appropriate level of service is maintained

Management of the Breast Screening service
  • Act as deputy programme manager for the Nottingham breast screening service
  • Input into the breast service strategy
  • Act as Health Inequalities lead

Performance Management
  • Work with the Director of screening and radiography service manager to coordinate the collection, analysis and presentation of activity related data.
  • Advise on the implications of performance trends
  • Provide measures of performance and feedback

Financial Management
  • Level 3 authorised signatory
  • To deliver the service to agreed levels and budgets
  • To be involved with business case planning, capital bidding

Clinical mammography provision
  • Symptomatic and screening breast imaging provision


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • BSc Degree Diagnostic Radiography or DCR (Diploma of College of Radiography)
  • Post Graduate Award in Mammography Practice (Masters level), or equivalent
  • Registered Practitioner with Health Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience of working as a mammographer within the breast screening and symptomatic service.
  • Experience of leading a team or project.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft office packages e.g. PowerPoint / Excel to produce reports, analyse statistics etc.
  • Experience of finance and budgetary responsibilities

Communication & relationships

  • Ability to delegate appropriately
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate with external personnel
  • Ability to initiate, communicate and develop ideas

  • Ability to manage own time to enable management and clinical work to be undertaken in a timely manner

Physical skills

Essential
  • Access to a car for work purposes to travel between remote screening locations
