Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead GP to join our team at HMP Long Lartin, a category A prison based in the village of South Littleton, Worcestershire. The site is around 10 minutes drive from Evesham and 45 minutes drive from Birmingham. At HMP Long Lartin, there is a high level of long-term condition patient needs, and this role would suit a GP who is interested in end-to-end care as well as leading the GP and ANP team. The site also has a small inpatient unit, and the role would cover daily rounds on the wards.

Hours

This position is part-time, working 32 hours per week across 4 days, with flexibility on which days. Shift times are flexible, potentially 8.30am-4pm or 9am-5pm. If different hours are required, we would be willing to consider this. You’ll receive an annual salary of up to £130,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience.

How will we support you?

  • Bespoke induction, including our Introducing Health in Justice training course
  • Regional and national career development opportunities
  • Our bespoke Learning Management System to address your learning needs
  • Support from the wider team

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK, and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you'll be doing:

As a Lead General Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing medical leadership and expert advice regarding medical and primary care issues
  • Supporting other GPs and ANPs working in the service with peer review & clinical supervision
  • Overseeing the induction of new GPs into the local site
  • Identifying and utilising evidence-based best practices through benchmarking and clinical guidelines
  • Ensuring systems and processes are in place for managing results, letters, and tasks
  • Supporting the development of Local Operating Policies
  • Supporting the Head of Healthcare at Local Delivery Board meetings and attending Clinical Forums
  • Reviewing CVs for potential new GPs and locum/agency GPs and supporting the recruitment of new GPs into the service

If you are interested in career development, we have a wide range of opportunities for you to develop your skills and experience, which include both internal and external options for development and learning.

It doesn’t stop there… we also offer:

  • Discounts on shopping and leisure activities
  • Support to grow in your role and continue your professional development
  • 24/7 employee assistance helpline and financial assistance when you need it

What we’ll look for in you:

The Health in Justice team at Practice Plus Group makes a real difference across over 53 prisons, young offenders, and immigration removal centres. We’re the UK’s leading independent provider of NHS services to over 40,000 patients in secure environments, always putting their needs first, regardless of their background. Practice Plus Group’s purpose is to unlock your best work life, and we stand by our core values: treating patients and each other as we would like to be treated, acting with integrity, embracing diversity, and striving to do things better together. We are looking for caring, compassionate, and driven professionals who can help us drive our vision for fair and inclusive healthcare access for all.

Qualifications required:

  • MBChB or MBBS and inclusion on the GMC Register
  • RCGP 1 and 2
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • Interest in long-term conditions
  • Knowledge and methods of developing clinical quality assurance
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships
  • Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a prison or high secure environment

Secure environments are one of the most challenging yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work. If you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing healthcare skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this could be the right opportunity for you.
