Job description

Join us as a Lead Enterprise Architect, Models & Standards.

You’ll be joining the team that is shaping the future of our enterprise data model and data standards to help us unlock our data’s full potential.

Be a thought leader of data modelling and standards, influencing business and technology strategies across the franchises and functions.

You'll be defining the intentional architecture for our data in an enterprise data model and data standards to ensure that the current architecture being delivered by engineers best supports the enterprise and its long term strategy.

Structuring, standardising, and governing the design of our data is critical to driving simplification, improving efficiency, and mitigating risk.

What you'll do

As a Lead Enterprise Architect for data models and standards, you’ll be defining and communicating the data modelling strategy and the current, resultant, and target state enterprise data model for the bank. You’ll ensure that the data modelling strategy and the enterprise data model link to, and are informed by, our overall strategy and architecture, and produce the architecture outcomes.

We’ll look to you to strongly influence the development of business strategies at an organisational level within your function and across the bank, identifying transformational opportunities for our businesses and technology areas associated with both new and existing technologies. You’ll also drive the adoption, enforcement, and governance of enterprise data models and data standards and manage and mentor a team of specialists, senior enterprise data architects, and data modellers, fostering a collaborative, high performance culture.

Recognised as the main data architecture point of contact for the franchise and functions assigned to your engagement scope, you’ll identify gaps in data architecture culture and skills across your areas of management and provide mentorship where necessary.

As well as this, you’ll be:

  1. Translating data modelling strategy and roadmaps into packages of work that allow frequent incremental delivery of value to be included in the product backlog.
  2. Defining, creating, and maintaining architecture models, roadmaps, standards and outcomes, using architecture strategies to ensure alignment to adjacent and higher level model.
  3. Working closely with business owners, portfolio managers, product managers, and release managers to define the target intentional architecture.
  4. Leading complex and technically challenging architectural transformations, coordinating design and platform teams across domains.
  5. Seeking out and utilising continuous feedback, fostering adaptive design and engineering practices to drive the collaboration of programmes and teams around a common technical vision.
  6. Staying abreast of the commercial and emerging data technology offerings that may influence current and target architectures, as well as the current state of our data design and data model of the bank.
  7. Supporting the resolution of business priority challenges and change management, ensuring the target data architecture supports our goals.

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for someone with a background in defining business and application architectures and roadmaps for complex enterprises. You’ll need expert knowledge and experience of enterprise data modelling and data architecture, and in-depth knowledge of business, data management, and application architecture as well as the remaining architecture disciplines. You’ll also need extensive financial industry business data knowledge as well as extensive data modelling and metadata management technology knowledge.

You’ll have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to colleagues, up to senior leadership level. Along with a good understanding of Agile methodologies with experience of working in an Agile team, you’ll have a background in systems development change life cycles, best practices, and approaches.

You’ll also demonstrate:

  1. Experience as an enterprise architect with focus on enterprise data modelling and data standards.
  2. Experience of developing, syndicating, and communicating data and information models, designs, and proposals for action.
  3. Experience and in-depth knowledge of conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling.
  4. An understanding of industry architecture frameworks, such as TOGAF and ArchiMate.
  5. Experience and knowledge of industry data modelling frameworks: Relational, ER, NoSQL covering Document, Key-Value, Column, and Graph, Event Modelling, Data Class Modelling, Ontology Modelling, Data Vault and Hybrid Data Modelling.
  6. Experience of working with business solution vendors, technology vendors, and products within the market.
  7. Knowledge and experience with data products and data design technology metadata management, data management, and software engineering.
  8. Experience managing enterprise, solution, BI/MI and ML data models.
  9. Experience managing, as well as influencing senior business analysts, architects, engineers, and designers.
  10. Strong knowledge of wider data and architecture topics such as business architecture, data governance, data quality management, master data management, and data controls management.
  11. Extensive experience with enterprise data modelling diversity challenges and patterns.
  12. In-depth knowledge and experience with domain driven design including bounded contexts, ubiquitous data language, and cross domain data sharing patterns.
  13. Deep knowledge of data design for enterprise data federation and microservices.
