Job Title : Lead Engineer – Asset Management

Location: Glasgow

Salary £60,800 to £76,000 + benefits

The postholder will provide technical leadership in continuous development of asset management processes and risk modelling within the SP Transmission business. They will ensure that procedures are created and effectively utilised while leading engagement in industry working groups and collaborative activities across the business. They will be responsible for ensuring there is clear line of sight between our strategic asset management objectives and our network planning activities, ensuring that all asset management activities are well evidenced and coordinated.

What you’ll be doing

  1. Ensure that our asset management objectives are well developed, effective processes are in place and develop strategic long-term asset risk plans. Manage these through effective communication with the transmission licence functions.
  2. Leading the development of the Network Asset Risk Metric (NARM) methodology and reporting requirements during the RIIO Price Controls ensuring industry standards are utilised.
  3. Lead activities to ensure that the continuous improvement of our network risk modelling is aligned with our wider asset management activities, aligned with industry best practise and that we can properly manage network asset risk and annual reporting against the Baseline Risk Outputs.
  4. Assess the network risk impact of changes in the asset management plan delivery and ensure that all variances are well documented and justified in line with the current regulatory framework.
  5. Manage the SP Transmission Network Risk position through effective asset management practises, ensuring that asset lifecycles interventions are effectively planned, implemented and evidenced to achieve cost-effective delivery which delivers benefit for the business and consumers. Develop network policies and strategies to achieve this in a coordinated manner.
  6. Ensuring asset condition data is used consistently in SPT within the NARM methodology to inform asset management decisions and regulatory reporting obligations. Identify process improvements to support the continuous improvement of the methodology and our asset management activities.
  7. The production of the NARM related annual regulatory reporting to ensure compliance with the Licence Obligations.
  8. Engaging with key industry stakeholders on the technical development of asset modelling and network risk management, ensuring that SPEN’s position is well understood and viewed favourably.
  9. Organising and planning workload across multiple simultaneous activities to align with deadlines and competing pressures from various parties.

What you’ll bring

The postholder will be a strong communicator (written and verbal) and be able to effectively present and report information to all, they will have good influencing and collaborative skills as well as excellent customer service to exceed expectations.

It is essential that the individual has an understanding and awareness of key business drivers and commercial context in which SPEN operates and can balance customer service, financial obligations and environmental and safety priorities.

Minimum Criteria

  1. Degree in Electrical Engineering, asset management, data science or relevant experience.
  2. Chartered membership of the IET, IAM or equivalent, or working towards this.
  3. Expert knowledge of the NARM methodology and its application to the transmission network.
  4. Experience and knowledge of transmission assets and design principles.
  5. Experience in asset management in a utility setting.
