As a Lead Engineer, you'll direct the daily activities of the shift teams engaged in breakdown and preventative maintenance for the plant, maximizing plant reliability, performance, product quality, and safety.

The Role

You'll ensure the plant is safe to operate and maintain, and personnel conform to health and safety legislation, policies, and standards. You will lead the engineering team to support day-to-day operations by delivering planned and reactive maintenance to achieve engineering KPIs. You'll work within the framework of a business-led engineering reliability strategy with the effective use of SAP PM, and maintain equipment in line with relevant food safety legislation.

In addition, you will support the recruitment, motivation, and development of an engineering team to ensure they achieve the goals and targets agreed in their role profiles and performance review meetings.

Essential Ingredients

  • Structured and practical engineering training (e.g., apprenticeship/HNC/degree).
  • Knowledge and experience of maintenance in an FMCG environment.
  • Health & Safety/Food Safety systems and legislation knowledge (e.g., PUWER, IOSH) to ensure a safe working environment.
  • IT and PC knowledge, capable of using widespread functions within relevant software (including Office and SAP).
  • Communication skills to develop effective, long-term relationships with key people.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills, taking responsibility for the training and coaching of others.
  • Influencing and negotiating skills, maintaining attention when speaking to groups, negotiating successful deals, and developing persuasive arguments.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, anticipating problems and identifying appropriate solutions.
  • Project management techniques to create effective plans with milestones, identify areas of risk, and monitor progress.
  • Timely decision-making, considering wider risks and implications.
  • Understanding of the cost base to improve profitability and developing and monitoring the engineering budget.
  • Leadership skills to inspire others, deal effectively with performance issues, and create a sense of trust in the team.
