Job description

Do you have demonstrable experience leading the design and delivery of Electrical Building Services and Industrial UPS systems in a high-integrity, regulated engineering environment?

Are you able to work on-site at least 3 days per week at either Warrington or Cumbria, with occasional travel to other sites as required?

Do you currently hold valid SC Clearance that is active and transferable, enabling you to start the role without delay?

The opportunity

Our client is currently looking for a Lead Engineer to take ownership of Electrical Building Services and UPS systems design within a multi-disciplinary engineering team. You will lead a technical team, provide review and approval of key deliverables, and act as the primary representative for Electrical/UPS services in stakeholder engagements and design reviews.

This role will be based in Warrington or Cumbria (minimum 3 days per week) - ad hoc site visits
Contract opportunity, Inside IR35
Security Clearance: SC Clearance required

Your duties and responsibilities will be:
  1. Lead and manage the Electrical Building Services design team to ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
  2. Review, check, and approve technical design documents and support quality assurance processes.
  3. Collaborate closely with other discipline leads including Mechanical, Ventilation, Civil/Structural, and Process.
  4. Interface with Systems, Project Management, and Construction stakeholders.
  5. Provide clear and concise design progress updates.
  6. Manage the collation and control of design documents using internal systems.
  7. Represent the Electrical/UPS discipline in meetings, design reviews (single and multi-discipline), HAZCONS, constructability walkdowns, and workshops.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
  1. Proven experience in the design and delivery of Electrical Building Services (LV Power, Cable Management, Lighting, Fire Alarms).
  2. Strong technical knowledge and delivery experience of Industrial UPS systems, including:
    1. Protective device coordination (upstream/downstream)
    2. UPS sizing for startup and running loads (rectifier/inverter)
    3. Changeover strategies and redundancy
  3. Experience gathering and integrating design data from stakeholder input and plant configuration records.
  4. Understanding of the impact of modifications on downstream LV systems and plant operations.
  5. Experience in producing or managing:
    1. Preliminary & Detailed Designs
    2. Tender specifications, technical drawings
    3. Health & Safety overlays, calculations, V&V, Basis of Design, CDM documentation, Regulation Registers, EO input, Maintenance Basis
  6. Knowledge of DSEAR and battery performance parameters.
  7. 18th Edition IET trained.
  8. Authorised to perform formal technical check and approval in accordance with project standards.
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
It's great if you also have the following:
  1. IEng or CEng status.
  2. Recent experience with Electrical Building Services and UPS delivery in regulated infrastructure or nuclear projects.
  3. Understanding of fault alarm interfacing.
  4. BAFE certification for Fire Detection systems and associated design.
  5. Balanced approach to pragmatic Fit-for-Purpose design vs strict engineering standards.
The setting for the role:

Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licensed site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gases, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
