Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 6 Lead Dental Nurse with demonstrable leadership skills and experience to join the Leeds Dental Institutes leadership team working within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.


You will be forward thinking with excellent communication, be a people person with experience of supervising and leading a team. You will need excellent organisational and IT skills, be able to encompass and manage change, whilst ensuring the team is engaged. You will have the ability to be self-motivated, work independently as well as being able to engage with the multidisciplinary team and practice patient-centred care.


The successful applicant will strengthen our specialist dental nurse team, providing support and leadership to the multidisciplinary team by working in close collaboration with other professionals, provide expert advice to patients, education to staff and students and will work across the outpatient service provide high quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

As the Lead Dental Nurse you will be responsible for managing and providing professional/clinical supervision to multi-disciplinary dental teams, including staff appraisals, attendance management, rotas, recruitment, deployment of both qualified and apprentice dental nurses within the clinical areas.


You will participate in service improvement projects or development programmes including carrying out evaluations and audits while continuing to deliver exceptional standards of safe, effective care to meet the Trust and Leeds University School of Dentistry standards and financial commitments.


The jobholder will support the Head of Dental Nursing in the day to day management of approximately 90 whole time equivalent dental nurses and support staff. You will support and deputise for the Head of Dental Nursing, attend meetings and cascade information to the dental team.


The jobholder will be responsible for the delegated budgetary management/performance of nursing pay and non-pay budgets including managing budget for stock and equipment purchases.


You must have commitment to putting patients' needs first within a friendly, supportive, efficient, clean and safe environment, providing a high standard of care whilst always ensuring patients are treated with the utmost respect.


Full GDC registration is essential and further professional development is strongly encouraged.
