Cyber Security Division, Technology Directorate

The Cyber Security Division (CSD) is part of the Technology Directorate. CSD is an award-winning division of cyber security experts who are committed to keeping the Bank of England safe from cyber-attacks and incidents. In 2023 CSD were recognised with the Financial Services award of the year at the National Cyber Awards. This followed previous award wins for individuals within our team at the WeAreTechWomen and Women in IT Awards, and Central Banking's Best Cyber Resilience Initiative.

Job Description:

The Lead Cyber Security Consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Shaping and delivering a strategy to reduce cyber security risk in the Bank's supply chain;
  2. Leading/implementing associated projects and initiatives;
  3. Conducting IT security risk assessments on supplier engagements;
  4. Advising internal colleagues on the cyber security risks associated with suppliers;
  5. Leading and line managing the team;
  6. Acting as a point of escalation and support for the more complex cases encountered by the team;
  7. Building strong relationships with collaborators across the Bank, within Government and with other Central Banks.

This is a people management role. You will be responsible for day to day management of the team and for defining roles and responsibilities. You will develop your team through sharing information effectively, coaching and communicating a clear vision to ensure that your staff are productive, engaged and motivated to deliver the area's aims. This will include setting clear goals and smart stretching objectives that are aligned to those of the team, division and directorate. You will also be responsible for managing all staff-related matters that may arise including performance, absence and sickness.

Role Requirements:

Minimum Criteria

  1. Extensive experience working in technical/cyber security roles, ideally within the financial/insurance sector
  2. Must have relevant technical qualifications such as CISSP, CRISC, CISM, CCP and proven experience conducting technical risk assessments
    1. Analysing technical problems to identify potential security concerns
    2. Assessing compliance with IT security policies and technical standards (e.g ISO 27001, NIST, Cyber Essentials, COBIT, etc...)
    3. Writing technical reports
  3. Must have a proven ability to lead and implement change.
Essential Criteria
  1. Sufficient experience and expertise in cyber security and risk to be able to act as a point of escalation for the team
  2. A solid understanding of IT network architecture and components, software/application security, infrastructure security, Cloud.
  3. Active interest in new technical concepts and/or technologies
  4. Must be able clearly explain technical information to non-technical colleagues
  5. Ability to lead and manage others
  6. Experience leading and delivering change
  7. Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills
Desirable Criteria
  1. Good judgement skills and experience advising up to, and including, 'C' suite staff
  2. Advanced qualifications in Cyber Security, Technology, Computer Science

Salary and Benefits Information

We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate.

We offer a salary as follows:

Leeds circa £70,510 - £81,360

London circa £78,310 - £90,360

In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below:
  1. A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year. The Bank has the discretion to vary standard accrual rates and dial up and dial down rates at any time and to withdraw dial up and dial down options at any time.
  2. A discretionary performance award based on a current award pool.
  3. A 8% benefits allowance with the option to take as salary or purchase a wide range of flexible benefits.
  4. 26 days' annual leave with option to buy up to 12 additional days through flexible benefits.
  5. Private medical insurance and income protection.
National Security Vetting Process

Employment in this role will be subject to the National Security Vetting clearance process (and typically can take between 6 to 12 weeks post offer) and the passing of additional Bank security checks in accordance with the Bank policy. Further information regarding the vetting and security clearance requirements for the role will be provided to the successful applicant, and information about how the Bank processes personal data for these purposes, is set out in the Bank's Privacy Notice.
