Job description

Company Description

Legal & General looks after around 700,000 institutional customers who have their retirement benefits secured with us. Operating continuously in the UK market from our entrance in 1987, we are the UK's longest-running insurer.

Our Institutional Retirement division provides pension risk transfer (PRT) solutions for UK and US defined benefit (DB) schemes, and reinsurance solutions from our global hub in Bermuda. We work with companies, DB pension schemes and their advisors to help them secure and protect scheme members' retirement benefits.

Joining us means you'll support customers' financial security in retirement; help companies to settle their pension liabilities and focus on growing their businesses; and enable investment for the long term to back our pension promises.

Job Description

We are seeking a talented Technical Cloud Engineer to join our innovative team. In this crucial role, you will design, build, and configure Azure projects, including builds, migrations, and modernizations, with a strong focus on Linux OS and workload deployment and management. You will have the opportunity to work hands-on while also providing leadership and best-practice guidance to our outsourced infrastructure teams. Join us and play a key role in driving our cloud initiatives to success, making a significant impact on our cutting-edge projects.

What you'll be doing:

  1. Using your experience of cloud architecture and knowledge of the benefits and drawbacks of different methodologies to provide design leadership including development of key design decisions (KDD) and low-level designs (LLDs).
  2. Engaging with our internal customers to consult on appropriate design and implementation approaches.
  3. Providing guidance and supervision to support project teams from formational stages (preliminary designs, estimation) and throughout the development lifecycle to ensure that infrastructure deliverables meet requirements.
  4. Developing and proving patterns using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) & Configuration-as-Code (CaC) approaches such as Terraform and Ansible for implementation by outsource (onshore/offshore) teams to allow fail-fast exploration of best practice approaches.
  5. Taking a lead engineering role on selected projects, developing IaC and CaC to ensure automated, repeatable deployments.
  6. Enabling the achievement of operational resilience needs through resilient architecture, and the achievement of security best practices to ensure solutions are secure by design and secure in practice.
  7. Ensuring that the cloud services are built with sufficient skill and diligence to support the business's goals in fulfilling its consumer duty.
