Job Title: Lead Clinical Operations Manager

Location: On-Site (London Bridge)

Term: Permanent, Full Time

Purpose of the job

The main purpose of the Lead Clinical Operation Manager is to have complete oversight and responsibility for all matters relating to the Clinical Operations department, reporting successes and escalating issues to the Director of Clinical Operations as required. The Lead Clinical Operation Manager will work closely with other operational Heads of Department to facilitate the processes enabling studies to be run efficiently, whilst not creating undue burden. The day-to-day operations will be fed back to this role from the COA/M direct reports.

Main duties and responsibilities

  1. Leadership
    • Coaching of COA/Ms, supporting their professional development
    • Attending sponsor meetings and audits to represent Clinical Operations
    • Hosting monthly meetings with the wider team to provide company updates and promote engagement
    • Setting and monitoring of KPIs for all departmental staff grades
  2. Training
    • Ownership of the departmental training program, ensuring that expectations for all staffing grades are realistic, delegating staff training as appropriate
  3. Resourcing
    • Matching departmental budget with upcoming workload to inform decisions regarding head count and/or secondment to other departments
    • Approval of departmental Annual Leave requests in conjunction with Scheduling Department
  4. Team Development and Management
    • Leading the recruitment process by reviewing CVs and leading interviews
    • Directly Line Managing the COA/Ms
    • Conducting COA/M Appraisals to acknowledge achievements, areas for improvement and next steps
  5. Oversight
    • Receiving regular reports from COA/Ms on day-to-day departmental activities, including but not limited to:
      • Study query numbers
      • Potential study issues
      • Achievements and progression plans for junior staff members
  6. Observation of intensive days and first study dosing to ensure that the schedule is being followed and there are no significant issues
  7. Oversight of Non-Conformance Reports raised against the department, reviewing investigations and CAPAs recommended by the COMs

Skills and Experience

  1. BSc or above in Life Sciences or related area
  2. Strong understanding of clinical research principles including GCP guidelines
  3. 7-10 years of Clinical Trials experience, preferably within the CRO setting
  4. Minimum three years of project leadership
  5. Minimum two years of team leadership/Line Management
  6. Experience in recruiting, training and developing people
