Job description

The Role

Sun Chemical is one of the largest manufacturers of inks, coatings, and pigments in the world. This position is maintained thanks to our innovative and diverse range of products, and the great team that supports them.

We now have an opportunity for a Laboratory Technologist to join our Research & Development team based in Yate.

Responsibilities
  1. To develop new products for use in the UV Curing offset Ink market that are aligned with the company strategy.
  2. To support/improve existing product ranges.
  3. To develop and maintain application lab testing protocols, including Risk Assessment and SOP development.
  4. Daily tasks in the laboratory as required.
  5. Application of scientific knowledge in problem-solving situations.
  6. Interact with internal and external customers to advance product development and implementation in the UV Curing Offsets Ink segments where applicable.
  7. Provide updates of project progress, including regular communication with project leaders.
  8. Technical Support for customers and manufacturing plants.
  9. Product Compliance.
  10. Safety Commitment.
Qualifications / Experience Critical for the Job Holder
  1. Practical working knowledge in a relevant formulating laboratory environment is desirable, but not essential - full training in offset ink development and formulation will be provided.
  2. Minimum 5 GCSE (A*-C / 4+) with emphasis on science subjects and A Levels in Chemistry/Biology/Physics or related discipline.
  3. Degree in Science related subject is preferable.
  4. Competent in the use of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word).
  5. Ability to devise test methods, analyse results and disseminate them in a professional and effective way.
  6. Strong team player.
  7. Able to take ownership and responsibility for their work and think for themselves while being receptive to feedback to continuously improve the quality of the development.
  8. Ambitious and willing to learn.
  9. Hold a strong can-do attitude.
