Job description

NES Fircroft are working with a well-renowned Crop Protection Solutions company who are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join their Research Centre in Bracknell

Purpose:

Laboratory based technician required to conduct specialised laboratory plant tissue culture processes involved in the production of Doubled Haploid (DH) cereals for breeding programmes.


Accountabilities:

  1. Conduct daily laboratory aseptic plant tissue culture techniques including light microscopy, plant dissection, plant embryo culture and flow cytometry.
  2. Chemical handling e.g., use of pipette.
  3. Recording of electronic laboratory data.

Critical success factors & key challenges:

  1. Strict adherence to standard operating procedures and a strong aseptic technique.
  2. Concern for standards and quality of work as an individual and across the team.
  3. Able to keep goals, targets and objectives in sight during busy periods.
  4. Highest regard for health and safety in all tasks and procedures undertaken.

Critical knowledge:

  1. Understanding of health and safety in the laboratory environment.
  2. Scientific A levels or equivalent education is desirable.

Critical experience:

  1. Laboratory experience including chemical handling and aseptic technique.
  2. Basic understanding of laboratory Health and Safety.
  3. Computer literate with experience in using Microsoft Word and Excel packages.
  4. Experience working in a team.
  5. Experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory.

Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities:

  1. Hands on attitude and ability to prioritise tasks in order to maintain required throughput of material.
  2. Communicate effectively within the Doubled Haploid team.
  3. Demonstrate accuracy and a close attention to detail in all tasks undertaken.
  4. Must be a flexible and supportive team player but able to successfully complete tasks alone.
  5. Ability to ensure a high level of confidentiality.
  6. Ability to keep goals, targets and objectives in sight during busy periods.
  7. Concern for standards and quality of work as an individual and across the team.
