Our client is a global leader in fire science, providing comprehensive fire safety expertise in testing, modelling, certification, education, and inspection. With over 65 years of experience, our client assesses the fire performance of products, systems, or entire projects across various domains such as nuclear, transportation, dwellings, infrastructure, tunnels, high-rise buildings, industrial processes, and offices.

Key Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Technician in our Fire Resistance Laboratory, your role will be diverse and dynamic, encompassing a wide range of responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation of our testing processes. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation and Installation for Fire Resistance Tests: Collaborate with the team in the preparation and installation of constructional elements onto large-scale furnace test frames, ensuring accuracy and compliance with testing standards.
  • Instrumentation Set-Up: Install and set up various instruments such as thermocouples and transducers, ensuring they are correctly calibrated and functional to deliver precise measurements during testing.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring all tools and machinery are in optimal working condition for continuous test operations.
  • Logistics Management: Assist with the off-loading and loading of deliveries, coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely arrival of materials required for testing.
  • Client and Team Coordination: Maintain daily communication and coordination with test engineers, clients, and their subcontractors to ensure seamless execution of test schedules.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Uphold exceptional awareness of health and safety requirements, adhering to all regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Continuous Process Improvement: Engage in activities that promote the constant throughflow of test work, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the fire test laboratory.

Required Attributes

  • Health and Safety Awareness: Demonstrated exceptional awareness of health and safety requirements, crucial for working in a high-risk environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: General proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office standard software and familiarity with general measuring equipment and calibrations.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and external partners.
  • Fire Testing Experience: Previous experience in fire testing settings, providing an understanding of the unique challenges and requirements in this field.

Desirable Attributes

  • Construction Experience: Experience in construction trades such as brickwork, blockwork, plastering, welding, or carpentry, adding value to the installation and preparation processes within the laboratory.
