About the team
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) ICT Operations team sits in the CIOD and is dedicated to supporting and improving NMI’s ICT and services. Amongst other functions such as desktop support, it supports and maintains the NMI Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Sample Manager for Windows (SMW).
SMW is an integral part of the laboratory operations and is used across the NMI’s Analytical and Chembio laboratories. The ongoing improvements in the functionality and performance of Sample Manager for Windows (SMW) facilitate the smooth running of the laboratory operations in accordance with Quality Systems and NATA requirements.
The opportunity
As a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Administrator, you will be managing and supporting the LIMS system, Thermofisher ‘Sample Manager’. The LIMS is operated by various branches within NMI across both Sydney and Melbourne sites. You will be developing and enhancing functionality using VGL within Sample Manager. Your role requires configuring software, testing, troubleshooting, and producing technical documentation.
You will also work as part of a team of LIMS administrators and developers, liaising with various stakeholders and collaborating with ICT colleagues where required.
We are seeking motivated, proactive, personable, and skilled Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Administrators. Our ideal candidates will have proven system administration experience preferably managing a Laboratory Information Management System such as Sample Manager or similar, relevant to the functioning of a commercial analytical / scientific laboratory.

What you will do
As a LIMS Administrator, you will be managing and supporting the LIMS system, Sample Manager operated by the Analytical Services Branch (Melbourne and Sydney) and several groups within Chembio & biological Branch (Sydney).
You will be developing / enhancing functionality using its proprietary language VGL, configuring software, testing, troubleshooting, and producing technical documentation.
You will also work as part of a team of LIMS admins and Developers, liaising with internal / external stakeholders and collaborating with ICT colleagues where required.
Duties:
Note that duties are similar between APS5 and APS6 however, APS5 will receive higher level of support, guidance, and training to undertake tasks. APS6 is expected to take more responsibility and undertake work with a high degree of independence where required.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance, and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
