Our Client, a global testing organisation is looking to recruit for an experienced Chromatography Main-Engineer (Technical Maintenance Specialist) who will support both organic (mainly this function) and from time to time support the inorganic specialist teams too. Working across a range of GC/MS & HPLC instruments to resolve issues and troubleshoot.


The Role:
  1. Facilitate and perform maintenance and repairs to the instruments at the Company's laboratory, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  2. Ensure business compliance with QMS, IEC/ISO 17025, MCERTS and associated documentation.
  3. Engage in ongoing learning and training to develop the skills necessary for advanced technical maintenance and troubleshooting, with a commitment to integrating this growing expertise into the role.
  4. Apply your skills and knowledge to improve maintenance processes and equipment reliability, providing hands-on support to the operational team in the form of instrument maintenance and repairs (GC/MS/MS, HPLC, LC/MS).
  5. Contribute to LEAN projects aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing waste, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful planning and execution of LEAN initiatives.
  6. Oversee and maintain all service maintenance contracts for laboratory equipment and facilities. Lead negotiations for contract renewals, ensuring cost-effectiveness and service quality.
  7. Coordinate with operational and technical staff to ensure that preventative maintenance is carried out in accordance with contract terms and schedules.
  8. Be the direct point of contact with all service engineers on site to agree works to be done and ensure the instruments have the required repairs and maintenance as required with hand over checking as part of the completion of the process.
  9. Arrange and receive the engineers to site where clear instructions are relayed to the service companies, so the correct person and parts are dispatched for the repair required.
  10. Maintain thorough records of all maintenance activities, contracts, and LEAN project outcomes to ensure traceability and compliance.
  11. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organisation to report on maintenance schedules, contract statuses, and progress on projects.
  12. Stay informed about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in technical maintenance and facilities management to continually drive innovation and improvement within the laboratory.
  13. Adhere to and support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards.

The Person:
  1. Will hold a degree in a relevant / Scientific and/or STEM related subject.
  2. Expert troubleshooting skills in HPLC, GC/MS and similar instruments.
  3. The ideal candidate will have worked to associated ISO 17025 (UKAS) QMS.
  4. Good communication skills needed.
  5. Strong IT skills and use of LIMS.
