Job description

Laura Baker is a Laboratory Coordinator at The Drax Group. The Drax Group operates Drax power station in Goole, Yorkshire, the largest renewable power station in the UK.

Responsibilities
  • I work within the chemistry team at Drax power laboratory, which is specialised as we work across a diverse range of subject areas.
  • My role includes the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, overseeing plant chemistry for various processes at the Drax site.
  • I monitor trends in quality control data for statistical significance and bias. Method development and validation and assessing statistical significance for precision and accuracy is especially important in my role. I must pay attention to detail.
  • Management of the laboratory under ISO17025 UKAS accreditation, which allows us to complete all in-house testing for the Environment Agency and regulatory compliance.
  • Management of the water treatment plant at Drax to ensure high quality pure water is produced, as any impurities can lead to issues with the integrity of the boiler circuits.
  • Troubleshooting, compiling reports, managing budgets, procuring bulk chemicals, monitoring usage, managing the chemical dosing plant, investigating non-conformity, auditing, and managing contracts.
  • I am responsible for boiler chemistry, Legionella control, and water treatment at the power plant.
