Shift Laboratory Technician

Location: Hull

Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)

Hours: 12-hour shifts covering a 24/7 rotation | 38.5 hours per week

Company Overview:

Our client is a leading manufacturer in the yeast and fermentation industry, supplying high-quality products to global markets. Their commitment to excellence in quality control, food safety, and innovation makes them a key player in the sector. They are now looking to expand their laboratory team and are seeking 2 experienced Shift Laboratory Technicians to support their Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) functions.

Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, carrying out analytical and microbiological testing to ensure product quality and food safety standards are met. You will be responsible for testing raw materials, in-process samples, and final products while maintaining strict compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and BRC food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct analytical and microbiological testing on plant samples with precision and accuracy.
  2. Calibrate and maintain lab equipment to ensure reliable results.
  3. Interpret test results and report non-conformances, escalating issues where necessary.
  4. Support quality control inspections and highlight any food safety concerns.
  5. Assist in effluent treatment plant (ETP) analysis and after-hours monitoring.
  6. Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in compliance with ISO and HACCP requirements.
  7. Participate in internal and external audits related to food safety and hygiene.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  1. Prior experience working in a laboratory environment within food, chemical, or petrochemical industries.
  2. Strong knowledge of QC and QA processes, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  3. Experience using analytical and microbiological testing techniques.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for data presentation and reporting.
  5. Excellent time management, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications:

  1. BSc in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field (or HND equivalent).
  2. Experience supporting food safety culture improvements and working with HACCP systems.
  3. Previous involvement in site audits and inspections.
