Lab Technician

A long established heavy Steel Company based in North Birmingham require a Lab Technician for their state of the art Casting and Rolling business.

Annual Salary: 30,000 to 34,500
Weekly Hours: 06.00 to 14.00/14.00 to 22.00/22.00 to 06.00

Reporting to the Senior Laboratory Technician, the principal duties of the Laboratory Shift Technician are categorised as follows:

1. Verification of Mechanical & Chemical Properties According to Customer Specifications
2. Hardness Testing, Tensile Testing, Bend Testing, Spring Bend Testing
3. Grain Size Determination
4. Spectrographic Chemical Analysis
5. Various Supplementary Tests as required
6. Generating Certificates of Conformity

1. Routine Calibration Checks of Hardness Testers, Tensometer & Spectrographs
2. Daily Maintenance of Spectrolux Container Laboratory
3. Maintenance of Laboratory Equipment as required

1. Verification of Acid tank strengths & recommending additions
2. Verification of Degreaser tank strengths & recommending additions
3. Verification of Benzotriazole strengths & recommending additions

1. Routine Macrosections of cast structure
2. Microsectioning & polishing as required
3. Inspection of Incoming Raw Material
4. Inspection & testing of virgin & scrap material
