Kitchen Gardener

The Walled garden at Elton is the second site for Bosworth's Garden Centre, and the Mulberry Cafe is an important and integral part of the operation. The Cafe serves a range of seasonal and traditional dishes, and its aim is to produce excellent food in relaxed and beautiful surroundings.

The role will involve working in the Kitchen Garden at our Elton site, working closely with the Chef and Kitchen team to produce a range of fruit and vegetables that will be used in the on-site Kitchen.

The role will also be customer-facing as customers to the site are encouraged to explore the garden and talk with our team to understand the principles of growing.

If the candidate has the right skills, there may be the opportunity to hold talks and classes on the principle of growing fruit and vegetables in a Kitchen garden.

The role may be suited to a candidate who has worked in both the Kitchen and Garden previously and has a passion for growing fresh produce that can be used creatively in the restaurant.

The candidate will be experienced in growing a range of crops, planning ahead, and working closely with other members of the team.

The role will also involve maintaining the RHS planted border on site, so an understanding of ornamental gardening will be important, but the main focus of the role is the Kitchen garden.

The Garden is currently worked by the head gardener and a number of volunteers who help out in the garden, although this relationship between employed and volunteer gardeners is something to be evaluated by the successful candidate and is not a system that is essential. The benefits of gardening on the mental health and wellbeing of the volunteers and the wider public will be developed and taught by the successful candidate if they have a passion and aptitude for this aspect of gardening.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: £13.00-£15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
