We are currently recruiting for a talented individual to join our design team for the position of Junior Print Designer based in our Head Office in the heart of Manchester. The overall responsibility of the role is to design new and innovative prints and graphics to ensure that the ranges remain inspirational and relevant and we are covering key trends in line with our competitors. The role requires a minimum of 3 years experience and the candidate will be a creative with a good eye for colour, trend and be experienced in printed textile design. This person also has to be very organised, proactive, enthusiastic and eager to learn. They will have strong art-working skills to generate repeat and placement prints & graphics which are on brand and trend relevant.


Responsible for fully supporting the Senior Print Designer in developing prints from initial stages right through to production.


Main Responsibilities:
  • A strong broad and versatile print handwriting - Good hand drawing/ painting/ illustrating/ graphic design skills required.
  • A strong knowledge of creating balance print collections from Hero Fashion prints through to core seasonal updates, being able to identify and create different prints from repeat AOP's, to Borders and Placement designs.
  • The ability to create unique, in-house prints which deliver newness and commerciality for multiple categories. The ability to work cross department / brand is key.
  • Fully assist Senior Print designer and the wider print team in all admin aspects of print design- sending print packs that are correct/exact, putting prints into commercial repeat sizes, cleaning up prints, re-colouring and maintaining the print archive.
  • A background in design with advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Pro-Create is essential.
  • Excellent knowledge of different print techniques & processes needed.
  • Able to spec and create 'Print Packs' and translate & communicate print artworks to factories.
  • Liase with print mills & suppliers on a daily basis to answer queries, chase in strike offs, send colour comments and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Good communication skills- ensuring all prints packs and developments are discussed with relevant teams and highlighting any issues which may affect the critical path.
  • Collaborate with the Buying Team on approvals, giving a commercial view whilst protecting the integrity of the collection and the brand.
  • Be knowledgeable about the fashion market including both aspirational and competitive brands.
  • Competitor knowledge- Visit stores/go online during each season to maintain a good colour and print understanding within the market- communicating that you have done this to your manager and through your design work.
  • To constantly look for inspiration and trends, going on development/research/comp shopping trips as required.
  • Seasonal catwalk analysis and report creating.

Personal Traits:
  • Experienced and established junior designer with creative and technical ability to design print artworks to be used across a multi-product collection.
  • Drive, enthusiasm and passion for retail and textile design, with a good eye for colour and trend.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work under own initiative and manage own department, as well as supporting the wider team.
  • Willingness to work on admin and design tasks.
  • A confident and articulate communicator with the ability to be self-sufficient, flexible, proactive and enjoy being hands on.
  • A positive can-do attitude and the desire to develop and grow.
  • Goal oriented and experience of working in a fast-paced environment and ability to react quickly to the changing business needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to be a team player and develop a strong relationship with members of different teams to apply the best work practice.
  • An ability to demonstrate and have understanding of 'brand handwriting'.

Ways of Working:
  • We offer hybrid working which varies across the business depending on the role you're in. Our Head Office is located in the Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre. So if you are travelling by train, tram or bus we're perfectly located, plus we're surrounded by cool cafes, trendy bars and the best places to eat!
  • Our full-time working hours are 36.17 per week over 5-days. We don't have strict working hours therefore there is some flexibility around start and finish times as long as you are meeting the needs of the business.
