Job description

Paying £37,497, plus 28.97% employer pension contributions, hybrid working, flexible hours, and great work life balance.

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

Our DWP Digital teams use fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

We are looking for people with a real passion for good content design to join us as a Junior Content Designer. You'll put our users' needs at the heart of work and make interactions with government as simple as possible.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • You can take an evidence-based and user-centred approach to content.
  • You can show different ways of displaying, explaining or testing your content.
  • You are able to get content peer reviewed.
  • You have built good working relationships with people in other roles.
  • You can demonstrate that the work you do helps your organisation achieve the right outcomes.
You and your role

You will be a user-centred designer who specialises in content, usually words. You will make things easy for people to understand and use, by designing how information is structured.

You'll work with the support and supervision of an experienced content designer to create content that's consistent with the GOV.UK and DWP style guides and design systems, and with best practice.

You will work with user researchers and interaction designers to create and test designs, along with stakeholders outside your team to make sure that content is accurate - this might include fact-checking or pair-writing.

You'll also be part of DWP's user-centred design community of practice. This includes getting your work reviewed by other content designers and reviewing their work, and access to learning that helps you be at your best now and as your career progresses.

Details. Wages. Perks.

Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model - you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.

Pay: We offer competitive pay of up to £37,497.

Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £10,862 per year.

Holidays: A generous leave package starting at 23 days and rising to 31 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time. You'll also get all the usual public holidays.

We have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • An award-winning environment and culture: Employer of the Year 2023 (Women In IT Awards), Founders Award for Outstanding Digital Leadership 2023 (Digital 100)
  • Flexible working including flexible hours and flex-friendly policies
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving
  • Bring your authentic self to work with 'I Can Be Me in DWP'
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
