An established healthcare provider is seeking a dedicated individual to join their Hepatology team. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain comprehensive exposure to Hepatology, ideal for those aspiring to advance in Gastroenterology. The position involves coordinating care for patients with liver failure and ensuring timely service delivery across multiple sites. With a commitment to innovation and patient-centered care, this organization fosters a supportive environment for professional growth and development. Join a passionate team dedicated to improving patient outcomes and contributing to a pioneering healthcare service.
Job Summary
This post will be nominally based at the Grange University Hospital; however, the successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly across all the Health Board sites for service delivery sessions across all 4 sites for some of their specialty sessions and service delivery sessions.
The Hepatology team within the Gastroenterology department currently consists of 5.5 WTE Consultants with interests in Hepatology, HCC, Hepatobiliary medicine, and ERCP. We have 3.5 WTE CNS working as outpatients in Hepatology, Viral Hepatitis, and supporting HCC work, in addition to a multi-site fibroscan service supported by HCS. The team also works closely with Alcohol liaison nurses, Physician's Associates, and dieticians and has links to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Transplant team.
Our team is proactive and dedicated to developing a high-quality liver service. ABUHB Gwent Liver Unit was the first health board in Wales to be accredited with IQILS level two; in addition, our CNS home visit service is BASL award-winning for innovation.
The Gwent Liver Unit is a non-transplant hepatology service that prides itself on being forward-thinking and patient-focused, developing new ways of working to ensure that patients receive the right care in the right place at the right time. We are keen to build on links between in and out-patient care with the development of a liver failure fellow.
Main Duties of the Job
This post will provide a 360-degree exposure to Hepatology as a whole and is ideally suited for an enthusiastic individual who wishes to pursue a career in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Skills acquired through this post will prove invaluable for specialist trainee applications.
The outpatient service is extremely busy, and through the outpatients transformation plan, new patient waiting times have reduced dramatically. However, in line with many other services, there are long waits for follow-up appointments, and it remains challenging to manage this whilst being responsive to the high-volume care needs of patients with Liver Failure. This role is seen as integral to the coordination and delivery of timely care for this complex care cohort alongside the existing clinical body.
