Main duties of the job

The Trust is committed to flexible working and welcomes invitations from applicants seeking to work on a flexible or part-time basis.

Applicants will have completed at least 12-18 months full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least 4 months of which will be in a relevant specialty. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at F2 in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted including time within a relevant training programme. You should also hold full registration with the GMC prior to commencing employment in this post.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Successful candidates will join the junior tier of staffing on the Emergency Department rota, consisting of 12 WTE doctors including F2, ACCS ST1 and GPST doctors. This is a full shift rolling rota with protected teaching time and development time.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Participating fully in all the educational activities of the department.
• Assisting the Consultants in the day-to-day clinical care of the ED patients in all areas of the department including Resus, Majors, Minors, Paediatrics and Ambulatory care.
• Participating as a team member in resuscitation teams under supervision.
• Participating in the Clinical Audit programme and the quality control of the department.
• Support the Trust in the delivery of a high standard of care and meeting Trust and departmental objectives by timely service and quality led clinical care.
• Comply with relevant trust policies including those relating to data protection.
• Actively pursue professional development maintaining a portfolio of evidence so that you are able to participate satisfactorily in the appraisal process in accordance with GMC requirements.

• Demonstrates ability to manage patients with complex needs whilst remaining aware of their own limitations.

Teaching Experience

Essential

• Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
• Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.

Experience

Essential

• Completed at least 12-18 months full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies, at least 4 months of which will be in a relevant specialty.
• Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required at F2 level in relevant specialty. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
• Experience of working in multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective, within specialty and sufficient experience.
• Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients under supervision from consultants or middle grade doctors.
• Previous experience working in the NHS.

Desirable

• Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
• Previous experience in Emergency Medicine.

Qualifications

Essential

• Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• MB ChB, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• Satisfactory completion of F1 training, or equivalent.

Desirable

• ALS Certification.
• ATLS Certification.
• EPALS Certification.
