Job description

Junior Clinical Fellow CT1/2 Equivalent in Acute Medicine

We seek experienced and enthusiastic doctors (CT1/2 equivalent) for fixed-term Acute Medicine positions.

The posts will start from May 2025 onwards (or could be considered for August 2025 rotation).

This post offers an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Medicine, either to apply for IMT or ACCS training in the future. There will be ample opportunities to increase your clinical experience and further develop other interests, such as teaching or audit and quality improvement. The successful applicants will have a clinical supervisor and be entitled to study leave.

If you have less than 6 months experience in General Internal Medicine at F1/F2 equivalent level, please consider applying to a clinical attachment, by sending your CV to Clinattach.recruitAMU@stgeorges.nhs.uk.

Main duties of the job

The applicants will be given a choice to be based for the 12 months in the same department or to rotate between departments every 4 months, similar to Internal Medicine trainees. The selection of the department will happen on a first-come, first-served basis between the following specialties:

  • Acute Medicine
  • Gastroenterology / Hepatology
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Endocrinology
  • Senior Health

The post holders can choose between an acute on-call rota (A) or an unbanded job (B). A schedule example of both options is shown below.

The Clinical Fellows will be contributing to the work of the specialty-based team, including the assessment of inpatients on the ward and the attendance at Medicine clinics, and, when on-call, in AMU, AAA (Acute Assessment Area) and A&E.

Job responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

  • The clinical fellows will be required to perform clinical work on the medical wards and on AMU, both as the first doctor to see patients who present to a busy urban emergency department and managing patients on the ward and in the ambulatory setting.
  • The appointees will work closely with the admitting general medical and the multidisciplinary team, supervising the work of more junior staff.
  • The post holders will be expected to contribute to the performance of administrative duties on the medical wards - such as checking radiology reports and microbiology results - and to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service, as required.
  • It is envisaged that the appointees would share the running of the multidisciplinary team meetings with the medical consultants.
  • The post holders will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical students and junior doctors. There may also be an opportunity to contribute to the teaching of specialist nurses and physician associates.
  • The appointees will be expected to undertake audits and encouraged to take on clinical research projects depending on their interests.
