Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Radio Journalist to join our dynamic news team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives under pressure, has a keen eye for news, and can deliver compelling and timely broadcasts.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Edit and present accurate, engaging, and informative news bulletins.
2. Present live, timed-out bulletins as well as recorded content.
3. Generate news story ideas, following leads from contacts, public figures, media conferences, and other sources.
4. Research, write, and deliver radio news stories.
5. Conduct interviews with a wide range of newsmakers.
6. Use editorial judgment to determine the best angle for each story.
7. Meet fast-paced, hourly and half-hourly news deadlines.
8. Adhere to media law, industry codes of conduct, and regulations while completing required training and accreditation.
9. Work closely with the Melbourne News Director and shift editors for direction.

Qualifications

1. Strong background in journalism, with expertise in news gathering.
2. Experience in a radio newsroom is desirable.
3. Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
4. Knowledge of local, national, and international issues.
5. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Competence in online research, audio editing, and social media.
7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
8. Willingness to receive feedback and direction.
9. Adherence to the highest ethical standards.
10. Valid Driver’s License (Class C – car).
11. A degree in Journalism is highly desirable.
12. Must be available to work nights and weekends.
