Job description

Key Purpose: This role is key in providing excellent support to Learners with additional needs within the Foundation Department and our work based provision while out on their work placements. The post holder will work with a case load of identified Learners with a variety of support needs using tools to promote independence and secure employment.

Working Hours: 37 hours a week, 37 weeks a year

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with initial, diagnostic and other assessments.
  2. Work in close liaison with the College's Inclusion and Foundation Staff to provide effective support to identified Learners to enable them to fully access their learning programme and achieve successful outcomes.
  3. Proactively identify strategies to meet the needs of learners and to promote the use of assistive technology wherever possible to enable independence.
  4. Provide effective support for Learners including (but not limited to) job coaching at their work placements, 1:1 support, classroom support, out of class support (such as lunch and breaks) and on visits and study trips.
  5. Monitor learners' progress and provide timely feedback on learners' development which may be included in reports to parents, carers, employers and other external agencies using the College systems including Show Progress, Mark Book, ProMonitor, ProSolution and ProPortal.
  6. Adapt and interpret teaching and instructions for learners as appropriate. Pro-actively contribute to and implement Individual Learning Plans, monitoring achievement against targets including EHCP outcomes.
  7. Follow agreed weekly timetables keeping Outlook calendar up to date.
  8. Contribute to reviews of support as appropriate throughout the year.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

  1. 5 GCSEs at Grade A* to C including maths and English (or equivalent).
  2. It would be helpful if Qualifications gained with the support of exam access arrangements (like 25% extra time or a reader) are declared.
  3. Level 2 Learner Support qualification (SILD) or equivalent or be prepared to undertake within the first 2 years of employment.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of the support needs of learners with learning difficulties/disabilities (which might include physical, mental, emotional and behavioural difficulties, dyslexia and autism).
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of issues, trends and initiatives within the education sector.
