Serverhouse Group of companies have been at the forefront of Internet Technologies in the South East. They manage Data Centres, device servers, firewalls and networks. The internet consists of technology companies such as EE, British Telecom, Vodaphone and foreign telecoms operators too. Serverhouse also extend fibre optics that they own and install to buildings. They operate high powered Wi-fi networks, and some of their customers with their internet connectivity may also purchase VOIP phones and use their engineers to troubleshoot, install and maintain these. ServerHouse have over 1000 routers switches and end devices connected to their network, they manage a Tier 3 Datacentre which connects to the London Internet exchanges and manage systems as extended and diverse as fibre optic cables in Malta, Frankfurt and Brazil, to microwave links from the Isle of Wight to the Mainland, and individual customers' telephones.

About The Role


Joining the team as an IT Support Technician Apprentice, you will be responsible for the following duties on a typical shift pattern:


  • Managing networks
  • Repositioning a frequency on a long-range Wifi antenna to ensure a remote link to a location is online
  • Logging into several routers and switches, spending time isolating interesting IP connectivity and Ethernet PPPOE faults
  • Using a ticketing system to communicate with customers
  • Answering customer queries & fixing issues as part of a team

Night Shifts


  • Troubleshooting fibre optic connectivity in Europe, Malta and Brazil
  • Raising tickets when the network management indicates that fibres/services are down
  • Liaising with Global Carriers such as Lumen, GTT, Colt and Zayo

5 Day Rotation - Shift Working


Shift pattern will be:


  • 5 mornings (6:45am to 15:00), then 5 days off
  • 5 late afternoons (13:45 to 22:00), then 5 days off
  • 5 nights (21:45 to 7:00), then 5 days off

This role involves 32 hours of a 40-hour week allowing for the 5-day rotation (18+ only due to night shifts).


As an IT Support Technician Apprentice, you will be studying towards a level three ICT Support Technician apprenticeship. This apprenticeship is 22 months in length and will involve ongoing onsite training and mentoring from the team at ServerHouse combined with 25 days of off the job training at the PETA training centre in Cosham.
