As an IT Support Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring our IT systems run smoothly. You will be responsible for the setup, maintenance, and support of all employee devices, including Windows, macOS, and Microsoft 365. Reporting to the IT Manager, you will provide hands-on support to our staff while also contributing to IT security, automation, and compliance initiatives. This role requires flexibility, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to IT support.
This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to be available in the office (London SE1) about 3 days per week (with flexibility expected for technical projects where you may need to be in person).
On a day to day basis, you will:
- Setup, maintain, and provide support for all employee devices (Windows, macOS).
- Manage users, groups, licenses, and security settings in Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Intune).
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding IT processes, including device provisioning, account setup, and permission management.
- Monitor and improve IT security posture (MFA, endpoint protection, patching, compliance frameworks like Cyber Essentials, ISO27001, and SOC2).
- Provide day-to-day IT support to staff—remote or onsite (in London) as required.
- Be flexible to work during US business hours on occasion to support international operations and resolve time-sensitive issues.
- Assist the IT Manager in evaluating and rolling out new tools, services, or automations to improve productivity.
- Support Avantia Law’s IT certifications and compliance initiatives.
Candidate specification
- At least 2 years of experience in an IT/ desktop support engineer role, preferably in a startup/ small IT team environment.
- Strong experience supporting both Windows and macOS environments.
- Deep familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration and services.
- Knowledge of device management tools like Intune.
- A proactive, hands-on mindset with excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support users with varying technical knowledge.
- Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash) or automation tools desirable but not essential.
- Understanding of network fundamentals (VPNs, firewalls, etc.).
- Exposure to security frameworks or compliance standards is highly desirable (ISO 27001, SOC 2, etc.).
- Familiarity with other SaaS tools like Slack, HubSpot, etc. preferred.
