Paterson Enterprises is a family-owned business operating within the lubricants and leisure sectors. We have two operating divisions in the lubricants business in the UK – Morris Lubricants in Shrewsbury and GB Lubricants in Gateshead. We also operate Morris Leisure, which consists of seven caravan holiday homes and touring parks in Shropshire, Hereford, and North Wales.
The company currently employs around 220 employees, and our head office is based in the centre of Shrewsbury.
Brief Job Description:
Estio Training has an exciting new opportunity for an IT Support Apprentice with Paterson Enterprises, based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Reporting to the Group IT Manager, you will provide IT support to business users, working with the IT Support & Network Administrator and Group IT Manager to deliver high-level customer service. This is a diverse role covering many aspects of IT across the different divisions. While the role is based at our head office, you may occasionally need to travel to other sites.
Job Description:
- This is a full-time, permanent position.
- Normal hours of work are 8.45am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday (36.25 hours per week) with an unpaid break of 1 hour for lunch. However, there may be a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends to provide out-of-hours IT maintenance and support.
- Full-time holiday entitlement starts at 23 days per year, plus bank and public holidays, increasing with service.
- Notice period after successful completion of the 6-month probationary period will be 4 weeks.
- As this role includes UK travel, you must have and maintain a valid driving licence.

Your Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide proactive face-to-face, phone, and email IT support to all users.
- Ensure jobs are logged, diagnosed, and resolved efficiently in line with business priorities, escalating issues where appropriate to the Group IT Manager.
- Set up IT equipment including desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and peripheral devices.
- Install software and replace hardware.
- Assist users in maximizing their technology use.
- Manage user access to systems including access approval forms, creating and deleting users, setting access permissions, and administering passwords.
- Rotate backup media in line with the schedule set out by the Group IT Manager.
- Report/manage issues to third-party support/suppliers.
- Assist with installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance of business systems including operating systems, networks, applications, hardware, and peripheral devices.
- Produce and maintain concise procedures for IT system installations, configuration, and maintenance.
- Produce and maintain training materials and provide user training where necessary.
- Maintain the IT equipment inventory accurately, ensuring everything is identified and recorded when acquired, moved, or recycled.
- Manage software licenses ensuring the company is compliant at all times and that licenses are recorded accurately to assist with any software audits.
- Wipe hard drives from redundant equipment.
- Organize the recycling of redundant IT equipment and toners.
- Assist in managing the company antivirus software and patch management.
- Perform routine PC health checks.
- Uphold the principles of, and assist with, monitoring IT users' compliance with the company IT policy.
- Allocate off-the-job learning each week to consolidate learning and experience and complete associated assignments with support from the IT team.
Qualifications:
- GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent in English Language and Maths.
- Preferred GCSE level 7 or above in Computing/ICT or equivalent.
Preferred Skills:
- Good knowledge of Windows 10/11, Microsoft Office, and Office 365.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of the IT team or independently when required.
Personal Qualities:
- Responsible and trustworthy.
- Adaptable and flexible in approach.
- Full UK driving licence.
- The ability to travel to other sites when required.
