The salary for this role is £37,509. Onsite working is expected for 2-3 days a week; however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

Job Description

This role is based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) / be eligible for SC Clearance (must have resided in the UK for the last 5 years), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

As IT Security Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in analysing and assessing potential security threats and risks to the organisation's information systems and data. You will perform regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify security weaknesses, develop and implement mitigation strategies, monitor their effectiveness, and stay informed on the latest threat intelligence and emerging cyber threats relevant to the industry. You will also identify potential threats and vulnerabilities, respond to security incidents by running coordinated response efforts, including containment and mitigation, and conduct thorough investigations with root cause analysis and comprehensive reporting. Furthermore, you will monitor security events and alerts and take appropriate action to respond to and mitigate potential threats. Additionally, you will develop and implement compliance strategies aligned with best practices and regulatory frameworks such as CAF, CE, ISO27001, NIST, GDPR, and more.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with risk management frameworks.
  • Manage security tools, implement advanced solutions, and design secure IT architectures.
  • Support audits, integrate security into projects, and promote security awareness through training.
  • Prepare security reports, document incidents, and oversee Cyber security policies and guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in relevant subject such as computer science, maths or similar.
  • Good understanding of or experience with cyber security threat detection systems.
  • Ability to apply good design principles and enthusiasm to develop this further.
  • Ability to use good development practices such as version control, testing, and knowledge of continuous integration.
  • Experience with using Linux operating systems and the command line.
  • Appetite to research and learn new technologies.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical terms.

Desirable skills, experience and competence:

  • Some familiarity with scientific concepts to discuss with domain experts.
  • Concepts involved in user interface design.
  • Deployment of software on Linux platforms.
  • Python-based web technologies (such as Django/Flask).
  • Familiarity with search systems, such as Elasticsearch or Apache Solr.
  • Familiarity with concepts involved in server management and configuration.
