The role
Raytheon UK has an opportunity for a versatile and experienced Agile Project Manager to join the Information Technology function, playing a pivotal role in the successful end to end management of key transformational IT projects using a blend of Agile and Waterfall methodologies to ensure optimal delivery and value.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills, and have a proven ability to flex between, as well as integrate waterfall, iterative, and agile delivery models into one, cohesive delivery strategy to best meet the needs of diverse teams and projects. This role is critical in ensuring successful project delivery by coordinating cross-functional teams, managing stakeholders, and delivering value-driven results.
We are looking for someone with an ability to anticipate problems across a span of issues and work areas, and to overcome them. We need a person who can work within a close-knit team, with the confidence to communicate and express ideas, twinned with the humility to listen to other people's ideas.
The IT function is responsible for the delivery of IT services to all UK based divisions to successfully enable our expanding business and assure operational delivery of critical functions and services that are reliant on all aspects of technology to drive revenue growth, improve business efficiency, reduce risk and maximise Raytheon customer engagement and alignment.
Responsibilities
Main Duties
Strategy & Planning
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
- Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
- Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
- Track project milestones and deliverables.
- Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyse results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
- Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
- Conduct project post-mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
- Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
Liaison & Communication
- Serve as liaison between technical and non-technical departments.
- Communicate with other management, developers, product managers and technical support specialists on product issues.
Development
- Organize and facilitate project planning, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, demos and other Scrum-related meetings.
- Track and communicate team velocity and sprint/release progress.
- Maintain process documentation.
- Ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability, and visibility.
Application Support
- Assist as needed with backlog maintenance.
- Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
- Assist with prioritization and resolution of defects / bugs.
Management
- Manages all aspects of multiple projects concurrently from initiation through closure.
- Identify and remove impediments, prevents distractions.
- Facilitate discussion and conflict resolution.
- Empower the team to self-organize.
- Owns all project risk; including time, budget, and scope, and the associated plans to contain and/or mitigate risk.
- Ensures project quality, schedule and budget objectives are met and deployed solutions deliver targeted business value.
- Establish and maintains relationships with third parties/vendors.
- Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies potential risks, and develops and delivers associated contingency plans.
- Monitors and controls resources, revenue and capital costs against the project budget and manages expectations of all project stakeholders.
Candidate requirements
Essential
- Demonstrable project management skills including project initiation, scoping, resourcing, scheduling, budgeting, risk management and communication.
- Capable of leading technology projects e.g., multiple stakeholders, teams of up to 10 people, of up to 6 months duration, and up to £1m in budget.
- Experience of full lifecycle management of IT Programmes and Projects from inception to delivery, especially solution identification, design, pricing, risk management and early project definition before transition into service operation.
- Thorough understanding of agile methodologies, values, and procedures.
- Proven experience of Project Management Best Practice for both agile and waterfall delivery methodologies and being able to identify the right delivery approach.
- Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and Waterfall methodologies.
- Ability to understand complex systems and business processes and define requirements for solutions.
- Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, presentation and influencing, at all levels within an organisation.
- Solid experience of delivering complex technical projects across the IT domain.
- Proficiency in MS Project, Team Foundation, or other robust scheduling/schedule presentation tools.
- Proficient in the use of all MS Office tools.
- Relevant years experience in project management.
- SC cleared or the ability to become SC cleared.
Desirable
- Certified SCRUM Master and/or other agile qualifications.
- Familiarity with scaled Agile frameworks like SAFe.
- PRINCE 2 and/or PMP certifications.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Science, or Mathematics.
- Proficiency in JIRA.
- Experience of operating effectively under the governance of a PMO structure.
- Prior experience in Project Management within defence or highly regulated technical industry, ideally within global environments and/or global matrix organisations.
- Experience with process quality methodology and ITIL.
- Knowledge of Lean principles and practices.
- Experience with Agile transformation initiatives.
- Ability to coach and mentor team members on Agile practices and principles.
