Job Summary

Due to additional project work deploying wireless access points throughout the Trust an opportunity has arisen to join the IT Infrastructure team as an IT Officer in the Network and Telecoms Team. This position is for a fixed term contract and will have the opportunity to work with the wider team when the project work isn't being carried out.

The team are responsible for delivering and maintaining a wide range of network and telephony technologies critical to the running of the Trust and delivery of patient care. These include a large Cisco campus network, over 30 remote sites, an enterprise scale Cisco firewall estate, Microsoft Teams and Unify IP and DECT telephony systems.

The purpose of this fixed term contract is to assist with the deployment of approx. 2200 wireless access points across all Trust sites. The successful candidate will work as part of a team and also work with the wider team when project work permits.

Main duties of the job

As an IT professional you will work within the Network and Telecoms team, and wider IT Infrastructure department. This will be predominately with End User Computing and Server, however you will also work with specialist IT teams supporting specific areas of the Trust.

The successful applicant will be working with others in the Network and Telecoms team providing support for the Trust Network, Teams Collaboration and Telephone systems.

Working within a high performing team you will be required to work closely with third party and in house subject matter experts to provide 2nd & 3rd line network and telecoms support.

To code, itemise and ratify external invoices to a value in excess £500,000 per annum.

To assist in managing contracts with 3rd party vendors.

Job responsibilities

  • To operationally provide first and second line support of the Trust's complex network infrastructure.
  • To participate in the planning, design, specification, procurement, implementation and management of network infrastructure to support data, voice telephony and video.
  • To proactively manage the network to ensure that agreed service levels are met, using appropriate tools and utilities including Cisco Prime Infrastructure and WhatsUp Gold.
  • To provide first and second line support services to users of the data network, including voice and video across the Trust, in order to maximise the availability and functionality of networked technology to end users. This may be either over the telephone, by e-mail or at the desk-side.
  • To install, configure, maintain and upgrade a wide range of network, telephone and video hardware and software.
  • The post holder may also be required to participate in a rota for the provision of out of hours support, and must be capable of diagnosing complex problems without reference to documentation and colleagues.
