IT Communications Engineer

We have a new opportunity to be part of our IT Trackside team in the role of IT Communications Engineer.

Purpose

This role supports Aston Martin's F1 race team as a communications-focused engineer with IT responsibilities, primarily providing high-level IP and radio communications at all F1 races. The candidate must have experience with MRTC/ClearCom systems and strong problem-solving skills under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

1. Setup and pack down all radio, intercom, and IT equipment for each race/test event, following evolving checklists.
2. Ensure daily functionality of intercoms and radios during race weekends.
3. Program and maintain communication hardware/software (radios, belt packs, intercom panels, etc.).
4. Provide top-tier support to race team members, from mechanics to senior leadership.
5. Coordinate with partners (FIA, FOM, Magneti Marelli) to maintain communication with the car.
6. Provide additional IT support (client, server, storage, network, A/V, security systems) when not focused on communications.

Typical Routines

1. Set up/tear down intercom, IT equipment, and cabling for garage and trucks.
2. Monitor and react to MRTC/ClearCom system issues during events.
3. Manage communication hardware stock, freighting, and asset control.
4. Collaborate with MRTC for hardware upgrades and liaise with Magneti Marelli for car comms.
5. Maintain operations and follow ITIL processes, assist with IT solutions and system configurations at the track and factory.
6. Attend IT meetings and manage team, travel, and organizational duties.

Additional Tasks

1. Monitor system availability, maintain backups, handle IT administration, and control budgets.
2. Participate in project delivery and contribute to continuous infrastructure improvements.

The candidate must be motivated to help the team excel as the best IT and communications support in the pitlane.

What we need from you

1. Strong experience of common desktop and server platforms including VMware, MS Windows Server, MS Windows, MS Office, Active Directory, MS Exchange, MS SQL, MS Terminal Services, Client & Server Hardware and SAN & Storage Hardware.
2. Awareness/qualified in ITIL methodologies.
3. Knowledge/experience in Cloud based technologies such as MS Azure/Office 365/Linux Kubernetes technology.
4. A good amount of experience in communications within the motorsport industry is preferred, however full training will be given to the right individual.
5. A strong emphasis on Networking (Cisco/Juniper/Palo/HP) with formal qualifications or training preferred.

The role requires extensive international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position does require an element of heavy lifting during setup and pack down which can involve lifting IT equipment to set locations including up and down sets of stairs due to the ever-changing setup garages in the F1 garage.
