Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellowship (Fixed Term)

The Faculty of Law and Newnham College at the University of Cambridge are seeking to appoint an appropriately qualified individual to a joint Isaac Newton Trust Academic Career Development Fellowship (INT ACDF) in Law from 1 September 2025.

The Fellowship is a new opportunity for an exceptional scholar to contribute to research and teaching within a Faculty and College environment, and an excellent opportunity to prepare for an academic career in Law.

The Fellowship is a result of a partnership between the Faculty of Law and Newnham College, and will comprise:

1. A Research Associateship at 0.7 fte in the Faculty, subject to normal conditions of employment at the University of Cambridge;
2. A coterminous appointment at 0.3 fte in the College, with specific teaching duties, subject to the college's normal terms and conditions.

• Be an early career researcher and teacher who will normally hold a PhD (or has recently submitted their dissertation for a PhD) or equivalent qualification. It is expected that candidates will have fewer than 3 years' experience post-PhD/equivalent, exclusive of any career breaks.
• Demonstrate potential to lecture effectively and to carry out and publish research of the highest calibre.
• Contribute to research and teaching in Law as follows. The percentages are averaged across the year with typically more of the teaching time taking place during term, and more of the research during University vacations:
• For 40% of their time, the Fellow will develop and pursue their own research project within this broad subject area. Appointees are expected to propose a research project appropriate for the duration of the Fellowship as part of their application.
• For 30% of their time, the Fellow will be required to teach on existing papers across the undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes in the Faculty, as appropriate to their area of specialism.
• For 30% of their time, the Fellow will contribute to College teaching (supervision) at Newnham College in relevant undergraduate papers, and contribute to direction of studies and undergraduate admissions interviewing.

The successful applicant must be qualified to supervise on at least one of the following papers: Tort Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Land Law, Contract Law, EU Law, Civil Law in Context.

The funds for this post are available for 3 years.

Full time employees are entitled to annual paid leave of 41 days inclusive of public holidays. For new part-time employees, annual leave will be pro rata'd based on days worked.
