Job description

The University of Aberdeen has been a leader in medical imaging for over 50 years, since developing the world’s first full-body MRI scanner. Our IPEM accredited MSc Medical Physics degree, delivered in partnership with NHS Grampian, is an ideal choice for recent physics and engineering graduates, medical physicists and those on the NHS Medical Physicists training programme looking to advance their expertise.

Study at Foresterhill, one of Europe’s largest health campuses, with cutting-edge technology including:

  • a £2m PET-CT scanner;
  • a radiotherapy centre with state-of-the-art linac treatment machines;
  • 3T and 1.5T MRI scanners.

Develop the skills to diagnose and treat disease using MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, and radiotherapy while contributing to groundbreaking research in Fast-Field Cycling MRI, functional MRI, and PET scanning. You will build a strong professional network by connecting with experienced medical physics professionals who can support your career development.

What you’ll study/Fees

The Medical Physics programme covers the full range of applications of physics to healthcare, including diagnostic imaging and radiotherapy. The curriculum is based on the requirements of the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK and the programme is accredited by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM). How you’ll learn

Our Medical Physics programme is taught through traditional lectures and practicals with some courses making use of seminars and specialised practical sessions. You’ll undertake individual projects, lab work and research whilst attending lectures and seminars. Many lectures are recorded and can be viewed again by students when required.

Some of the teaching methods employed in the programme include:

  • Tutor-based support throughout;
  • Insight into current medical physics projects;
  • Research-led teaching taught by key opinion leaders.

On-going support is provided by the University’s dedicated team of experienced researchers, who will be tutoring you.

Entry requirements

Applicants must already hold a Physical science or Engineering second-class Honours degree. Minimum 2:2, 60% or GPA 2.4/4 or 3.0/5 overall.
