Job description

We are looking for an experienced IP Paralegal to support our expanding IP legal team at Entain.

The successful candidate will have exposure to a wide range of IP matters, including copyright, trade marks, design rights, patents and trade secrets, across 31 territories. That includes getting involved in running infringement analyses across new brands and products and advising our marketing teams on campaign ideas and materials. In addition to having sole responsibility for certain matters (such as trade mark renewals), we are looking for somebody who can assist other team members with more complex contentious and advisory work and structured IP training programmes. It is also important that candidates are enthusiastic about helping our team be organized, efficient and as visible as possible to the business.

Strong links with the business are crucial to the success of the IP legal team. We are looking for a team member who will build and cement relationships across our 25+ brands and innovation functions, have a natural curiosity about the business trajectory and flag relevant business developments to the IP team.

Our ideal candidate is an IP enthusiast who is organised, proactive, commercially savvy and a collaborative team player. If you thrive on protecting brands and innovation, unravelling complex legal puzzles and enjoy variety in your work, all whilst working in a dynamic and supportive team, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the wider IP legal team on managing Entain’s 2000+ strong global trade mark portfolio.
  • Overseeing trade mark prosecution matters and renewals.
  • Reviewing and actioning trade mark application watch notices.
  • Regular monitoring of our new online brand enforcement programme and escalating matters to more senior team members where necessary.
  • Assisting other team members with contentious registry proceedings and litigation matters.
  • Filing and organising key documentation, updating our team trackers, organising execution of documents and collecting stats on team productivity.
  • Working with others (e.g. our Legal Operations Manager) to improve our processes and drive team efficiency and visibility.
  • Advising our marketing teams on IP queries.
  • Drafting IP agreements such as trade mark assignments and licenses.
  • Building strong relationships with our brand managers and product and technology teams.
  • Assisting with IP training initiatives.
Qualifications
  • A paralegal with knowledge and experience of IP.
  • A strong and collaborative team player who is also comfortable working independently on smaller projects and workstreams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interest in, and enthusiasm to learn more about, IP and the gambling industry. However, previous industry experience is not essential.
  • Forges solid relationships with key business contacts and proactively seeks information that is needed from the business.
  • Prioritises and keeps track of multiple matters in a busy and fast paced environment.
  • Exercises sound judgment, including flagging issues that require input from more senior team members.
  • Proactively suggests/implements new processes where they will lead to greater efficiencies and productivity.
