Investment Manager (Life Sciences)

Application Deadline: 21 November 2024

Department: British Patient Capital

Employment Type: Permanent

Location: London

Compensation: Competitive

Description

Location: London / Sheffield / Hybrid Working

(Expectation that you will attend an office 2 days per week)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week/flexible days and/or hours (Mon-Fri)

The Role

British Patient Capital ("BPC") is a commercial subsidiary of British Business Bank ("BBB"). BPC's long-term vision is for more home-grown and fully funded high growth companies to fulfil their potential to be players on the global stage. Our investment programme backs venture and venture growth funds and co-invests selectively in our UK-based portfolio companies.

Working as part of a small team responsible for the investment and ongoing management of the BPC direct investments programme, you will work across the range of activities of BPC, collaborating with investment colleagues based in the Sheffield and London offices, and liaising with legal, risk, finance, and external advisors.

You will need a good commercial understanding of small business operations and finances to contribute effectively towards financial and investment analysis, due diligence, negotiation of legal agreements, financial modelling, and portfolio monitoring and reporting.

It is essential that you have an understanding of life sciences, financial accounts and reporting, operational knowledge of Microsoft Office software, and the ability to work collaboratively and flexibly as part of a team to achieve measurable results. You must also demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

Ideally, you will have experience working in a venture capital fund and conducting due diligence. It would also be advantageous to have experience developing external networks to mutual advantage.

This is a small team, so you must have a flexible, team-focused approach and be willing to help out across the Bank when necessary. Additionally, you should be able to build strong relationships across a wide range of contacts while focusing this work for the benefit of the team as a whole. You will also need to be extremely organised and flexible as the team deals with a high volume of transactions, and consequently, you will need to keep on top of a large portfolio of activity.
