THE SEARCH:

Altus Partners is pleased to be partnering with a leading small-cap private equity firm to appoint an Investment Director. This is a key hire for a firm managing £400m, with a focus on SME investing and value creation. The firm operates opportunistically, investing in founder-led and entrepreneurial businesses that require strategic support to scale, develop their teams, and unlock significant market opportunities.

The successful candidate will play a hands-on, commercial role across deal execution and portfolio management, working closely with a team that values trust, experience, and the ability to hit the ground running.

THE ROLE:

The role includes but is by no means limited to the following:

  1. Deal Execution: Lead and oversee transactions, from origination to completion, working across both senior and junior teams.
  2. Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of several assets, supporting strategic growth initiatives while engaging in deals as they arise.
  3. Value Creation: Provide hands-on guidance to portfolio companies, ensuring they scale effectively and develop high-performing teams.
  4. Board Participation: Play an active role in board meetings, leveraging past experience to provide strategic insights.
  5. Fund Deployment: Support the firm in deploying capital efficiently over the next 12 months, ahead of the next fund cycle in early 2026.
THE REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  1. Experience: Minimum 10+ years in private equity, investment banking, or a related field, with a strong track record in SME investing.
  2. Board Exposure: Prior experience on boards or working closely with management teams to drive business growth.
  3. Deal-Making Expertise: Proven ability to originate, execute, and manage investments, with a particular focus on businesses with £2m-£15m EBITDA.
  4. Commercial Acumen: A pragmatic, results-oriented mindset with the ability to balance deal execution and portfolio value creation.
  5. Trust & Leadership: A natural leader who builds trust from day one and can hit the ground running.

This is a partner-track opportunity, with the firm actively hiring candidates to shape its next phase of growth.
