Job description

Job Role: Investment/Project Accountant

Industry: Utilities

Location: Leeds

Duration: 6 months initially

Pay Rate: £350 per day via Umbrella

The role:

We are seeking a skilled Investment Accountant to provide financial support for a number of Electricity Transmission (ET) projects. This role involves proactive management of information, forecasting, and financial reporting on ET projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure suitable financial reports are built and maintained, detailing spend by project for the ET portfolio.
  2. Ensure that following approvals, projects are set up in a timely manner to accurately account for project costs in accordance with the approved ET investment proposal papers.
  3. Ensure that project costs are recognized in the books based on value of work done principles, where possible provided directly from our partners.
  4. Provide accurate, timely, and consistent month-end reporting in accordance with Finance timetables to project managers and to programme delivery managers.
  5. Run forecast, consolidation, and review processes to provide robust monthly forecasts for in-flight and unsanctioned projects, accurately allocated, and including risks & opportunities.
  6. Support processes to ensure that approved forecasts and annual budgets and business plans are input into local financial systems in an efficient and accurate way, in accordance with financial timetables.
  7. Ensure that the regional financial controls in operation are efficient and effective and in conjunction with Shared Services teams ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
  8. Work in partnership with UK Shared Services accounting teams, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of all management accounts and reporting statements.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Experience with major accounting systems, budgeting and forecasting, financial performance reporting, and business management engagement, preferably in a large, international corporate setting.
  • Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or similar).
  • Strong organizational skills and ownership to support the implementation of new financial processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to positively influence the behaviors of all involved in the financial processes of electricity projects, both finance and non-finance.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a wider team.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data manipulation.
