Interim R&D Contract Manager

Job summary

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust R&D Department are recruiting for an interim R&D Contracts Manager to work within the non-commercial research contracts team at Guy's Hospital, on a fixed-term basis (14 months in the first instance). This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with research contracts experience who wants to step into a management role within a supportive team.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for non-commercial research contracts for specific directorates within the trust, working in a team of R&D contract managers and senior contract associates. They will be responsible for the contracts for a portfolio of studies and will be the key point of contact for all non-commercial contracts for their allocated clinical directorates and their investigators. In particular, they will be responsible for the negotiation, management, and execution of agreements that are sponsored and hosted by our trust, including our drug trials, device studies, and interventional/observational studies.

Agreements will include funding agreements, service level agreements, collaborative and consortium agreements for both national and international studies, material transfer agreements and other associated technical agreements.

About us

This is a full-time job but we will consider 0.8 WTE or 4 days per week for the right candidate. There is a requirement to work in the R&D office at Guy's hospital, London Bridge 3 days per week. Other flexible working arrangements are available under our policy but we cannot offer a remote working role. Job responsibilities

You will be an experienced contracts officer, with a willingness to take on line-management, with excellent communication skills who is able to collaborate and influence others including those you line-manage. You will have proof-reading experience, great attention to detail and excellent document control. You will be highly organised and have a methodical approach to your work and be able to support and develop junior members of the team. You will have a pragmatic and solution-focused approach to contract negotiations to ensure a timely set-up of your portfolio of studies.

Qualifications & Education

Essential

• Relevant degree or professional qualification or equivalent experience
• Significant postgraduate training (Diploma) or equivalent experience to masters level

Previous experience

Essential

• Significant experience in a contract negotiation role in either NHS/ academic /pharma
• Understanding of NHS research governance experience

Desirable

• Experience of line-management

Skills

Essential

• Ability to analyse and interpret research project information and ability to make judgements regarding a range of highly complex research management issues
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with researchers, consultants and staff from different disciplines and administrators at all levels
• Able to persuade people to their point of view without causing resentment or damaging working relationships
