Job description

About The Role

The Insurance Pricing Lead is responsible for estimating the cost of insurance within Motability scheme lease pricing. This requires the role holder to manage models estimating how components of insurance costs will change in the years ahead. These models will be developed in conjunction with your wider Asset Risk colleagues, with the Insurance Pricing Lead drawing on the expertise of modellers and data experts. The forecasts will incorporate views on the roll-out of electric vehicles, the dynamics of the UK motor insurance and repair markets, the development of the Motability fleet and lease proposition, and any other dynamics that will materially impact future scheme insurance costs.

The Insurance Pricing Lead is also responsible for modelling and estimating how future insurance costs vary by make and model of vehicle on the Motability scheme pricelist. This requires regular detailed analysis of scheme vehicles’ claims costs, and a well-governed quarterly review of models and assumptions.

Key to success in the role is ensuring that price outlooks are appropriately reflected in Scheme lease pricing, and clearly communicating the assumptions, risks and dynamics captured by the pricing outlooks you develop.

The Insurance Pricing Lead sits in the Insurance Risk team in the Asset Risk Function. Asset Risk has the responsibility for forecasting Motability Operation’s key financial risks, including Residual Value and SMR, Insurance claims costs and lease pricing, Economic Capital, as well as producing the customer pricing (Car, WAV PWSS).

Reporting to the Head of Insurance Risk, the Insurance Pricing Lead is a member of the Asset Risk leadership team with the following key responsibilities:
  • You will support the setting & delivery of the Asset Risk strategy in alignment with the needs of the wider business strategy.
  • You will ensure the Insurance Risk deliverables (BAU and strategic projects) are effectively managed and delivered through a matrix approach across the Asset Risk Operational Teams and fellow Asset Risk output owners.
  • You will work with the Asset Risk Leadership Team to ensure the requirements of the Insurance Risk Team are understood, planned and managed for all strategic projects and business as usual activity across the relevant time frames of 12 to 24 months.
  • You will work with and support your fellow Leadership colleagues to develop strong colleague engagement and wellbeing through, for example, effective communication, development and training, recognition and inclusion.
  • Develop collaborative and enduring relationships with the Asset Risk and wider business leadership team, relevant stakeholders, and be an advocate for Asset Risk and our ways of working.
  • The Motability Scheme is unique in that it provides comprehensive insurance as part of the overall lease costs. With 815k+ Scheme Customers this is the largest motor fleet policy in the UK, with annual premiums in excess of £1bn.
