Job description

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

To manage an effective service between theatres and sterile services by ensuring equipment is well maintained and ready for use by the end users. The ideal candidate will have previous experience within theatres, stores or Sterile services and be able to work under pressure. Working within theatre stores you will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will be required to liaise with internal and external suppliers. This will ensure the smooth running of theatre departments and ensuring the surgical kits are maintained.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure instruments are sent for repair in a timely manner so the service can continue as normal.
  • Liaising with departments, ensuring they know of trays out of commission. This will enable areas to make sure it doesn't interrupt the running of their theatres.
  • Keeping detailed spreadsheets with repair costs, tray information and outcomes.
  • Dealing with suppliers, ensuring a smooth delivery of instruments and ensuring they are returned to trays in a timely manner.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Knowledge

  • GCSE grade C in English and Maths (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable experience of working in an operating theatre environment, SSD or Stores.
  • Knowledge of using NHS IT systems.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments.

Communication

  • Ability to maintain and establish relationships in team.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with patients and MDD.
  • Understands barriers to communication.
  • Able to persuade and negotiate.

Planning and Organisation

  • Able to plan and organise own time and others.
  • Able to prioritise.
