Join John Lewis or Waitrose today
If you've ever stepped through the doors of a John Lewis or Waitrose shop, shopped online, or seen any of our adverts, you'll know there's something unique about us.
That unique proposition is our Partners. As co-owners they have a say in our business and receive a share of the profits, so they put time and effort into making it work. Our Partners are the reason we're the success we are. They're our secret sauce; the opportunity for us to differentiate.
Job Summary: Interviews potentially commence from w/c 6th January 2025
Job Description:
At a glance
This is a hybrid working role, therefore your time will primarily be split between working from home and the London Head Office. However, there will also be an expectation to visit other locations as the need arises.
Our team currently works from the office once a week to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings, but again the frequency is dependent on the business needs.
Contract type - This position is a permanent role.
About the role
Do you like shopping, food and problem-solving? Do you have ideas to improve the Waitrose and John Lewis customer experience? Then this opportunity is for you!
We are looking for someone to join us as a Partner who can put themselves in the minds of our customers and imagine a better shopping experience through the use of data science.
Our Partnership is an ongoing experiment to find happier, more trusted ways of doing business, for the benefit of us all, and our Data Science team is at the core of this. We work together to create an effective business and a fairer, more sustainable future for partners, customers, suppliers and communities.
We work on projects that span the entire John Lewis Partnership, from product recommendations on our websites to optimising how much bread to bake in our stores, alongside other typical retail use cases such as forecasting and price optimisation. We work closely with our stakeholders to understand their problems and collaborate to solve them.
We are increasingly embedded within product teams alongside engineers, analysts and product managers developing ML products, but some of us also work on solo missions or in pairs to inform strategic decisions. There is plenty of scope for variety in the role, so no two days are the same. If that’s your thing then you’ll fit right in.
Data Science is an ever-evolving field, so spending time on development is extremely important to us. Discussing and sharing ideas is part of our DNA and we are constantly finding new ways to do this through hackathons, bootcamps, weekly development time as well as on the job learning.
Team ethos / Who are we?
We are a friendly, inclusive and collaborative team who look out for each other. We work in different areas of the business, so staying connected is important to us and we try to get together as a team socially as well as during working hours (virtually and in person).
At the Partnership, we value out-of-the-box thinking and different ways of looking at the world. We know that often the smartest solutions come from unique perspectives and viewpoints. We aren't just looking to tick off a list of technical skills, but are actively committed to fostering new ways of thinking and solving problems. We therefore encourage applications from people of diverse backgrounds - whether that be gender, race, education, employment history or anything else, and we strive to be a more welcoming and inclusive environment.
