Location: Bradford/ Hybrid Working (1-2 days in the office a week)

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Infra Engineering Manager - Database to join the tech team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

The data team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The role will be managing a team of colleagues to maintain the company database of medium to high complexity, whilst driving the development policies, strategies and standards across the Database Administration Team.

Providing subject matter expertise to other technology teams, key customers and senior managers and leading activities to optimise database configuration and access, you will ensure the Database Administrators (DBA) resolve database capacity and performance issues in a timely manner and will be accountable for database recovery and backup.

Where you fit in:

As our DBA Infrastructure Manager, you will:

  • Be responsible for all aspects of people management for your team, including but not limited to performance management, coaching and mentoring, resourcing, and training.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of strategic roadmaps for relevant technology stacks and write database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).
  • Develop and execute periodic quality controls to verify data accuracy, independently analysing, solving, and correcting issues in real time, providing problem resolutions end-to-end.
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product life-cycle environments, from development through to mission-critical production systems.
  • Coordinate database checkpoint frequencies, archive logging, resource usage with programmers and System Administrators and assist analysts with complex tuning schema refinement.
  • Consider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users, refining the logical design so it can be translated into a specific data model.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

  • Excellent knowledge of integration with various infrastructures within an enterprise organisation.
  • Strong working knowledge of ANSI SQL and be familiar with the ITIL framework with proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL, and other relational database systems.
  • Experience in supporting mission critical production systems, with the ability to implement policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the database(s).
  • Experience with Windows Server environments and Linux environments and understand Linux system administration, scripting, and process automation.
  • Knowledge and capability of delivering documentation, testing and release management principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery and performance monitoring standards.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of service continuity planning and IT Security.

You will also benefit from having:

  • Knowledge and experience of cloud database systems.
  • PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills.
  • Familiarity with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS.
  • Oracle DBA Certified Professional.
