Job description

We are seeking an experienced Information Technology (IT) Quality Manager to join our quality systems team. This role is critical in maintaining compliance, managing risk, and supporting continuous improvement within our IT infrastructure. You will work closely with software development, validation, and operational teams to uphold best practices in IT quality assurance, validation, and compliance.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

  1. To implement, monitor, and continuously improve the quality management systems specifically for IT needs and to provide assurance on quality outputs from IT systems and projects across the business.
  2. Work closely with software developers to implement best practices for software quality assurance (SQA) and change management.
  3. Lead incident management, including investigation, root cause analysis, trend analysis of IT-related quality issues.
  4. Oversee Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), ensuring timely identification and resolution of quality concerns.
  5. Conduct internal audits and support external audits, ensuring compliance with relevant quality and regulatory standards.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, Quality Assurance, and Project Management, to drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  7. Maintain and improve IT quality management systems (QMS), ensuring documentation is current and effective.

Job responsibilities

This role's function is to ensure overall quality assurance of the IT systems across the business. It is to implement, monitor, and continuously improve the quality management systems specifically for IT needs and to provide assurance on quality outputs from IT systems and projects across the business. It is to oversee these departmental quality activities and systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory and accreditation bodies (e.g. UKAS, MHRA, GXP). This role will also involve a focus on ensuring the quality aspects of in-house software development, which have some different aspects from routine laboratory quality management.

Main Duties: To include, but not be restricted to, the following duties:

  1. To implement, maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System in the department, for all IT activities and outputs.
  2. To implement and maintain the Group Quality Policy as directed.
  3. To prepare, implement, and review the IT Quality Manual and quality processes.
  4. To ensure identification of quality objectives and indicators, including formulating a plan for achieving these.
  5. To measure and monitor quality objectives and indicators.
  6. To ensure QA processes and QC plans are implemented and monitored (e.g. for verification of change, system testing, results issuing monitoring).
  7. To ensure risks associated with IT activities and outputs are raised and managed appropriately in accordance with the Group Risk Policy.
  8. To be responsible for planning, organising and executing an effective departmental audit schedule.
  9. To organise and lead departmental Quality meetings and Annual Management Review.
  10. To ensure all departmental staff are trained and competent in all relevant Quality Management processes.
  11. To ensure compliance and maintenance of document control system for the department.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Qualification in Quality Management or equivalent.
Experience
  • Minimum of three years experience in IT.
  • Minimum of three years experience in Quality Assurance / Management.
  • Experience of Regulatory or Accreditation based audits and assessments.
  • Experience with software QA tools and processes.
  • Understanding of software development testing strategies desirable (unit, integration, regression testing and other methods).
  • IT Quality Assurance / Engineer experience desirable.
  • Experience of working within the healthcare field desirable.
  • Management and supervisory experience desirable.
  • Experience of project management or working within a project.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency in word processing software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document management systems.
  • Familiarity with ISO 15189 and/or ISO 9001 is preferred.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Numerate.
  • Highly skilled in use of Microsoft Office & Microsoft Excel.
  • High level of general computer literacy and the ability to learn & effectively use new software systems.
